I *think* the deal is 5% discount on 6 or more bottles, so i reckon you should be able to get 8 bottles for £2.25 each. Anyone? I got 12 bottles for £27 a few days ago and I'm going to have to go back for more for our NYE party. Bloody lovely wine!

Yes, but remember that the MAIN discount offer if that you buy 4 bottles for £10, so if you bought 6, you would only qualify for 4 x £10 and then you would be paying full price for the other 2 bottles.

So it makes sense to buy in multiples of 4 and then to qualify for the seperate offer of buy 6 bottles get 5% off, you're nearest amount to take advantage of BOTH offers would be to buy 12 bottles.

It is very difficult to exaplin here and you would be better going in store and seeing for yourself!

Bottom line buy 12 bottles for a bloody good Xmas saving!!
  • Surely 8 bottles will be 2 lots of 4, therefore £20
8 is more than 6 so the 5% discount will apply
    £20 - 5% = £19
£19 divided by 8 = £2.37 as near as dammit.
Is this right??? Seems logical to me??

  • It is complicated the way Somerfield work out the savings.

    Say you bought 2 x 4 bottles on offer at £10 per 4 bottles = £20.
However, you get 5% discount on only 6 of the bottles. Not the whole 8.
    If you go for 3 x 4 bottles on offer at £10 = £30. Total 12 bottles.
Then you get 5% discount on each set of 6 bottles.

Course for the 5% discount you can buy any wines at all, as long as you buy 6 bottles.

I bought 12 last week, but unfortunately have slung out receipt, so can't give you the breakdown.....and I get 20% off too just now as DD works there part-time. ;)

    Anyway, hope that makes sense.

Basically, buy in multiples of four. For best discount buy a minimum of 8 bottles, which will produce a total cost of £18. any further 4 bottles will incur a further cost of £9 per 4 bottles.
  • Don't forget to lift up the December issue magazine, as on page 57 is a voucher for a free 330ml bottle of Fosters twist worth £1.09

    Yes you are nearly right.

    You are totally correct regards:
The 5% offer is on 6 or MORE bottles so you do ONLY need to buy 8 (and not 12) to get the best deal on the 4 for £10 wine

The bit you got wrong is the £20 - 5% = £19 (yes I know the maths are correct)

BUT Somerfield give you 5% discount on the FULL PRICE of the wine (ie £4.99 a bottle)

    The actual calculation is £20 - (5% of £40 = £2) = £18

    so ONLY £2.25 a bottle

Yes but then you miss out on the second 5% offered on buying six bottles, because you are 4 short of the 6 required.

A bigger saving will be made by buying 12, but however many you buy it is still a very good price.

    Sorry but that's rubbish.

You get 5% discount on EVERY bottle purchased once you've bought AT LEAST SIX whether you've got 7, 8, 9, 13, 23 or 101.

The "critical" number here is EIGHT - multiple of FOUR and OVER SIX !

Trust me I bought 8 bottles for £18 earlier in the week and have taken advantage of these multiple offers (eg 4 for £10) and the extra 5% on ALL OF THEM for the past 5 or 6 years.

We've still got LITRE bottles of Croft Original sherry in our "cellar" that were one of their best offers (before they excluded fortified wine from the 5% deal) from about 5 years ago - they only cost £3.20 - should have been almost £7 at the time

    At last  :D

Exactly what I said earlier, Somerfield are clear about this, the discount of 5% is on 6 or more bottles so if you buy 8 BOTH discounts kick in. £2.25 per bottle. Job done. Nice wine. Cheap. Hic...
