Why are there so many toffee nosed idiots on here?

Options
Bare with me on this post = no so intellectual 17 year old :o

I have notice in particular the loan forum, that it seems to be infested with people that are just up themselves and rarely provide any construcive help/criticism when people post loan/debt related issues.

I won't name them, but im sure if you look on my thread you will know who i am about, that are just full of themselves and just make people feel so small.

People come on here because they need advice, they certaintly didn't sign up to be called nasty names and been talked to like they are a child.

That's the last thing what people want, when they have issue such as this going on through their lives.

What i have noticed too is people are not very understanding, 'oh you should sell this, sell that, sell your car' ect. Many people need the things they have, like a car, yes they can sell their car and buy a cheaper car but the way some people go on on here, they think you can just click your fingers and all matters will be resolved.

No one shouldn't judge someone if they have come into a difficult matter such as debt. None will know what the future holds for them, you can have it all, the money, good, stable paying job and you lose it all, these things happen.

Anyway my main point is that people needs to be more understanding instead of throwing the riot act at people that they don't really know.

I rest my case / rant over.

The OP doesn't wish to name names. So I'll stick my hand up and plead guilty. I described a poster as "an idiot" when perhaps I should have described the poster's situation as idiotic. There is a distinction between the two phrases that I failed to use.

Here's a link to the thread.
I have notice in particular the loan forum, that it seems to be infested with people that ... rarely provide any construcive help/criticism when people post loan/debt related issues.
Here are the 13 suggestions that I made. Feel free to let me know why they're not constructive. (NB Where I've used <insert> it identifies an addition to the originial post which didn't number the suggestions):
    1. Stop borrowing. Find other ways to deal with your situation.

    2. Sell your car.

    3. Sell your playstation. <insert> or other toys.

    4. Sell your DVD collection. <insert> or CDs or books or whatever it is you're in to.

    5. Get on eBay.

    6. Stop spending money on anything that doesn't involve travel to and from work <note that could be seen as implying a cheaper car is ok> and basic food requirements.

    7. Drink water <insert> from the tap.

    8. Cut your mobile phone contract back to a minnimum or a PAYG deal.

    9. Stop spending on calls, texts and internet.

    10. Pay off the PDL companies asap.

    11. I'd strongly suggest posting a statement of affairs on the Debt Free Wannabe forum and acting on every suggestion.

    11. Talk to your parents too. But if they are in a position to help financially be responsible enough to pay them back as quicly as possible.

    13. You may just get lucky if you are disciplined enough and start using your brain where money is concerned.

The OP also started this thread. In it he shows disdain for honesyt when applying for credit. "... i'm sure everyone tells a few porkie pies when it comes to job interviews and even applying for credit!".

    My impressions of that thread.

I thought you posted some constructive advice opinions4u, personally I wouldn't have called the OP an idiot but I would have said he was foolish with money so some might say that would be the same thing.

I don't recall any constructive advice from jazpaz.

ETA I read the thread before this thread was started and those are my thoughts after reading it originally, rather than going to the thread after reading this one.

To save others the time & effort of reading the other thread, I think this probably sums matters up perfectly:

I would like to apply for a loan as soon as im 18. ...

I bought some stuff on H&M.COM they try to take some money out of my account but they couldn't, a few days later they put me on a credit account. I gave them a wrong Date of birth when i registered on the site, i missed around 2 - 4 monthly payments...

OP it is really difficult sometimes to integrate with older people. In your case that's just about everybody on the board. I too am fairly new and have protested vigorously at the attitudes of some - and still do. I think the best advice is to do what common sense tells you to and not to rise to the bait. I do my best not to but I can be quite sarcastic by nature, sometimes without knowing it, and that seems to wind people up. Then I have a choice as to whether to apologise or fight my corner. In most cases I apologise because ultimately it's nice to be nice and not hard to carry. The experience you get on her in dealing with people of different social backgrounds, natures, ages etc will stand you in good stead for the rest of your life so look upon it as a learning experience. In the past I've left boards because of the nastiness and I feel that was my loss and my failing for being unable to deal with what's come my way. Don't be like me - stand up for yourself, in the nicest possible way.

    Does that help?

PS: We're not toffee nosed. I'm from a very humble background but I write and talk like a snob. It's the education I received, which I for one am glad of.

Care to back that up with evidence?

I'm surprised your delusional mind hasn't decided that I'm Andy.

Would you two like to start a separate thread to continue your bickering away from the OT discussion?

Either that or get a room!

Just read the thread and felt I had to reply, people were honest with the replies but a few may have been a bit harsh, can you not see what you were trying to do/ask.

I just read the thread on the Loans forum. Fair enough some comments may be a bit negative towards you but there is advice in there all the same. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, i agree with a lot of the posts which say that you are heading for BIG trouble here, maybe i would have said it in a different way but they're mainly right. No bank will lend you money without proof of income, especially at your age. You come across as very naive and ignorant in financial matters which is why you got the responses you did. You have been very stupid in the past, lying about things, it's time to act like a grown up if you want to be treated like one. You have to accept that on a forum like this you will get all sorts of replies, it's no use posting things like this just because you don't like whats been said.

For what it's worth, a look at Dmg24's posting history shows that she doles out more than her fair share of sound advice, particularly on the Disabilities & Benefits board. Some of that advice may not contain the answers that a person is looking for, occasionally leading to conflicts and a 'butting of heads' scenario, but that makes it no less relevant.

She makes a hell of a lot more sense than a lot of people on here, myself included! :D
