Hopefully he will find his way back.. it is a long road but so long as he knows you are there.. don't ever let him go without telling him you love him.

    Me too. Big hug x
p.s. 'They' say to detach with love, when someone you love is caught up in addiction. Easier said than done probably. But you have to keep yourself safe x

I'm sorry. I know of a few people who have managed to get back to normality after drugs. I hope you get back your son soon. xxx

I lurk on here and don't often post but this just pulled at my heart strings.

I've been there with someone I love and I understand the unimaginable pain it causes.

My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you.

Nearly everyone I know takes drugs (mostly alcohol) and some of them overindulge, and I'm sure some of them are functioning alcoholics/drug addicts.

I hope he realises that life can be fun sober too.

    Good luck

Parenting can have nothing to do with this, unfortunetly the op's son has took a wrong turn in life so to speak.
Things like hanging in the wrong crowd, friends influencing, etc!
Sorry have you never made a wrong choice in life? Are your wrong choices blamed on your parents parenting, I doubt it very much.

Op, sit tight, be there for him and like someone else said tell him how much you love him and that you will be there xx

    You have my sympathy.
The years between a lad being 17 and 19 are the most formative. It's going to take a big effort for you to set him on the right road, there are some friends he's going to have to sever ties with to get through it.
Do you know what drugs he's using?

i am so sorry, its something all parents dread

i would say most parents dread, not all, especially younger ones

at 31, i am a parent of 4. Between the ages of about 17 and 25 i used to consume such vast quantities of illegal substances, based on the media view, im suprised im still alive. A typical weekend evening would see me consume cannabis, speed, (lots of) ecstasy, cocaine, alcohol, sometimes acid, maybe ketamine.... all in the space of a few hours. However i am and fully well, have a healthy and active lifestyle and have a professional career and home life that a few are envious of.

The media would have you believe that every narcotic substance out there leads to death and a life in the gutter, my advise would be to ignore that and find out about the substances your child is taking, find out the truth, then worry if need be. Talk to your child, understand what they are doing, You might find its not as scary as first thought. Im not saying for one minute anything is safe, but everything carries risk, even driving a car, just make sure you understand what is happening and dont label your child as evil, maybe even embrace what they are doing to an extent, not condone it just accept it, its safer they feel they can come to their parents about it if need be than not.

Unfortunately, just as with alcohol (which scientifically is far more harmful than many substances that are illegal) these substances can be fun if not abused, hence why people take them.
