In terms of exit price, not sure, but if they exceed their respective previous highs at some point in the next 20 years, I will probably sell.

It's unlikely that will ever happen as the banks have lost many of the ways they achieved such high (but unsustainable!) profitability.

so will sell 50-100% if/when they hit double my buy price, which is 84p for me.

This one is going to require both luck and patience!

With your investment approach. You are looking for the market value of Lloyds to double. This is unlikely given that the bank is shrinking its balance sheet and the amount it lends. Banking will not be a growth business for the foreseeable future. Focus is primarily on improving margin and cutting out the dead wood (non performing loans).

I guess we'll see. I don't see 80p+ in 3-4 years as being unachievable, at least not if they restart dividends in 2013. I'm hoping they restart divis on their prefs (which I also hold) in 2012.

    I was thinking about this.

I'm only 21 but want to give investing a try. I have quite a bit saved up, so was thinking about putting 1, maybe 2 grand into buying Lloyds shares

I'm willing to leave it invested for several years

Don't overlook the fact that the taxpayers stake is going to be placed into the market over time. So no shortage of stock to purchase .

I can foresee the UK taxpayer still having a stake still in RBS in 10 years time.

True, but lloy.l has been north of 90p in the last 12 months, so 84p isn't a crazy goal.

That was before the PPI issue ( a major source of income ) and Lloyds exposure to property in Eire being exposed.
