https://www.lastminute.com will do this journey for £360 flying out with BA and back with BMI
Easyjet from Luton, Stansted or Gatwick are half that price at around £160 -£200 dependant on which flight.
for me, its got to be THE TRAIN.
With a Family Rail Card and booking via http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/you are doing RTN journey (from Kings Cross) for £96 All In or £137 without the railcard.
You will have reserved seats, a table and non of the airport hassle.
Get 10% off your family railcard at http://www.familyandfriends-railcard.co.uk/online (normally £28 for 1 year)0 -
That is the weekend of T in the Park so could be why there are few cheap flights left so close to the date0

Under normal circumstances the other option to get to Edinburgh is to fly to Glasgow then take two coaches to Edinburgh - but as it's T in the Park weekend you'd have to take whatever you can get
I'd also check flights from Southampton as that can be easy to get to from the Heathrow area0
