Does the poster actually have a Mk3 Range Rover on Motability?

No idea, it might be a VW Polo, because s/he didn't name the MOTA I gave the first generic example example I could find with pictures .. .. to help the O/P understand .. .. and teach others to understand what the device was and where it was fitted, there are many cars with fitted with the device.

NOTE - unlikely to be a Chelsea Tractor .. .. was so hard up last month they sold~the~gold [STRIKE]or maybe it was a Chelsea Tractor and that's why they needed to cash gold in[/STRIKE] :D

    ??????????

I think you are way off. On the average car when the steering goes out of alignment, it is a simple enough thing to solve. Just simply adjust the steering rack (track rod end!!)

If this is required because of hitting something, then I would get the whole set up checked for any other damage to the suspension mountings etc.

I do think you are looking at the non mechanical steering shaft - simply put an electric motor that drives the movement of the front wheels as the steering wheel is turned.

Ring notability again and if you again get somebody who doesn't understand the problem then simply ask to speak to somebody with more knowledge about mechanics.

It's not physical / mechanical. Setting the camber / caster / toe in, won't solve the problem. When / after the camber / caster / toe in is correctly aligned the steering angle sensor is calibrated via the two potentiometers set at 90 degrees and the info is stored in the on chip EEprom, it also stores the VIN.

Resetting the steering rack including the toe's will make no difference unless the steering angle sensor is calibrated to the now new settings.

I'll bet £100 there is an easy fix, like taking the battery off for an hour then the EEprom defaults are reset, then a couple of full hard turns L & R will reset the calibration and the VIN - just a guess - but I'd put my money on it.
