    I'm more than a little concerned that the OP deliberately sent the pensioner out of the room and then illegally searched through the pensioner's drawer.

    Then posts about it on an open forum!

    You do what you need to do in order to avoid becoming a victim.

    And, could you tell us under which act looking in a drawer is illegal?

    In this case the proper course of action would be to simply refuse the deal and walk out. The OP at this point was already suspicious.

    Had a home based car trader try and pull the wool over my eyes - I'm glad I insisted on a HPI check, yep Cat D. The phone operator checked to make sure I knew what this meant, I replied "yeah I'm not buying the car" in front of the seller. He posed at the time he didn't know, I believed him then many years ago, but now I know he was full of 'it. Buying and selling cars, look out for yourself, more power to the OP.
