sorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrryHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.
Please note that any views i put forth are not those of my former employer The Insolvency Service and do not constitute professional advice, you should always seek professional advice before entering insolvency proceedings.0 -
Me thinks we have a veritable can of worms here
What DI says makes the most sense, I always get a little nervous when peeps come on here and say it is fine to use a CC for fees etc. No one knows what the actual examiner will do, that is why I never suggest this method of paying the fees especially when the CC is a relatively new one, I know people have done this in the past but who knows what the OR will do in the future. :pB&SC No. 298

I was in debt prior to my parents health problems. I wish it were the case that I had 16K in savings previously i definately wouldn't be going bankrupt. That question was on behalf of somebody else.
Apologies if I have upset anyone that was not my intention.
Thanks for you advice.0 -

I understand peoples comments and take on board peoples concerns.
BR was not an avenue I ever wished to go down. My problems started about 3 years ago when my partner went off with another woman. I was forced to move out into rented accommodation and then things just spiralled downwards. I had a decent job and apart from a manageable loan and the normal credit card debt I wanted to move onwards and upwards. I found it hard living on my own and could just about cope.
Things totally changed with my parents health. I am an only child and within the space of 6 months my whole world was torn apart. When my mum had her stroke we had to find a home as she needs 24 hour care. You wouldnt put your cats and dogs into some of the homes I visited. in the end we found a good one albeit the top up fees. When my dad was then diagnosed with cancer I found it hard to cope with work and getting my dad through chemo.
I gave up a well paid job as i couldnt cope. My debt problems spiralled a bit after that what with top up home fees and travel and just living costs.
Anyway to cut a long story short, I spoke to Melanie Giles insolvency service who were fantastic. Tina from there spent a lot of time to help me out and come through the other side with no beneficial gain. My court date is in 3 weeks time and I will start afresh. The hardest part was telling my dad who is so old school but in light of all that has happened he was totally cool with it.
The only thing I will add is dont wait until things get this bad. There is lots of help out there.
Kind regards
Anyway to cut a long s0 -
Hi GatesyGirl
All I can say is best of luck with everything. I too was left with debts when my wife left me and also both my parents are very ill. I lost my home and like you went BR after loads of advice from CCCS.
Best wishes and take care.0
