BT Infinity discount?

Options
Hi there,

Just wondered if anyone has been given a discount to the standard Infinity price on the BT website? I have BT Total Broadband at the highest option but the speed drops so much in the evenings that I can't watch iPlayer and it's very frustrating (this never used to happen on O2). I'm either going to move over to Virgin Media (they can offer me a decent package deal because I have TV with them already) or upgrade to BT Infinity.

I already have a decent discount on my package at the moment line rental, unlimited anytime calls, and the unlimited broadband all for £27/month, but I was told if I want to upgrade to Infinity I'd have to pay the standard price on the website, and get no discount at all...

So is this the same for everyone else? Or has anyone got a decent package deal with Infinity included too?

Thanks

Cable is certainly the answer to getting decent speed in comparison to using a standard phone line. But is BT Infinity available as well as Virgin cable? In my area BT are only targeting the streets that don't already have cable.
If you have a choice then I don't know what BT's customer service is like, but can say from experience that Virgin's has plunged downhill recently. Took them days to sort a recent problem out and their tech support told me to look on Virgin's internet forum as I'd probably get a quicker response there. I did find a workaround and 4 days later Virgin responded!

Thanks :) Yes both are available in my area; just spoke to BT again and they offered me line rental, unlimited calls anytime, Infinity and Vision for £34/month. Seems like a good price, but the thing is I don't want Vision; I want to keep my TV with Virgin Media! They said without Vision it would go up to £40....

I know I could get a good deal with VM 3/4 months down the line but I wish BT would offer me something better so I could just sort the problem out now! It seems silly that they'll do it with Vision for £34 when it would cost them less if I didn't take the Vision anyway, but they won't take that into account.

Can't you just take the Vision and not use it?
VM cable internet is good and delivers the rated speed, so long as it doesn't go wrong, which it rarely has. I have my phone through them as well. The only thing that bugs me is the ridiculous rate they charge for calls to 0845 numbers. Do BT include those in their "anytime" allowance? If they do (VM don't), then I'd lean that way.

The thing is, having checked the VM retentions thread out I know I'll get offered a better deal with them a few months down the line, and it'll be cheaper than paying £34/month for homephone/broadband with BT. As it stands I pay £23.50 for TV with Virgin, and £27 to BT for homephone/broadband, so ideally I'd like to pay a similar amount in total including cable broadband...

I wouldn't rely on them offering you a better deal in months to come. I've been with them for years (even pre NTL days) and when I recently hinted at leaving to get a better deal, they essentially just said OK.
I have 10Mb broadband and phone only, with unlimited calls anytime to 01, 02 and 03 numbers, caller display, a few other extras I don't use (part of the bundle) and a "loyalty" discount. Costs me £28.58 a month plus any call charges incurred.
Not interested in TV, so it may be worth seeing what bundles they can offer.

Hmm... I need the Asian bundle with VM which costs £11 alone, so adding that to what you py would make it £40, and for it to work out the same as BT I'd need XL BB as well as the basic TV service for an extra £13... that seems reasonable right? that's presuming I get offered something similar to you...

I guess I'm not so bothered about a few pounds either way, but if the VM package is going to work out a lot cheaper I don't want to regret not going with them a few months down the line.

    I can't decide!
