Street Surveys

I got harassed by one of these yesterday, and a woman saying it would only take 60 seconds...

So as DS wasn't whining too much, I agreed.

She started saying about me being a busy mum, and do I get enough time to myself and leisure time, had I had a make-over before, and random questions along those lines.

The box ticking looked a little odd, almost as if she had a card with something random on, and was pretending to tick boxes!

She was nice and friendly to begin with, and then she asked about whether I'd be interested in being chosen for a luxury pampering day in London with a friend blah blah. I said no, as it really isn't my cup of tea, and then she got really stroppy with me!

What are these people after? I presume they were just collecting names and addresses??

I don't mind genuine marketing surveys, but I do object to people being so RUDE!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

She wasn't doing a survey - she was trying to flog you something. Next time, just slap her round the chops. But not in front of your son - violence is a Bad Thing, kids!

If anybody stops me and ask if I would be willing to participate in a survey, I ask if she needs to know my address, telephone number or email address.

If the answer is 'yes', I decline.

That is a very good idea. :)

I've been stopped before and I "won" a pampering and make over session and a photo shoot. It wasn't really a survey and they were just trying to flog me some overpriced photographs of myself.

I have done proper market research surveys before that I've been stopped in the street about. One was sniffing different fabric conditioner smells and one was tasting new crisp flavours. On both occasions I was given a few quid in gift vouchers to thank me for my time, so it was a worthwhile experience :D
Here I go again on my own....

I think "harassment" is probably overstating it a little bit.

I've found that a simple 'no thanks' and carry on walking tends to be quite effective in dealing with these people. :)

I like the people who knock on your door these days to collect for charity. In the old days you could just give them a fiver. These days they want you bank account number and sort code off you. I am sure that they are perfectly honest I just feel uncomfortable handing over my account details to complete strangers!

I refuse to be coerced into giving to charity - whether it be the high street chuggers who change their tabards as often as they change their underwear (i.e. very frequently), the collectors who knock on my door or those people who rattle a bloody tin under my nose as I'm walking out of the supermarket.

I donate to a few charities by direct debit, these are the ones close to my heart for personal reasons.

If I want to give to another charity, I'll get off my bum and set up the direct debit myself - not sign up on a whim just because I'm approached by a total stranger.

    And rightly so.

Handing over account details to complete strangers is at best naive, and at worse almost criminally negligent.

I have no objection to people genuinely trying to generate money for their chosen charity, but speaking for myself I can't afford to get stung after giving out my bank details to someone I don't know.
