Before you buy direct from dell......

Options
Im livid! After previously owning 2 Dell PC's I bought a new laptop from Dell this week and I had been really careful to do my research re spec, prices etc. I paid £450 for a Dell Inspiron R and today, on EBay, brand new ones are being sold by Zavvi for £269.00. (Front page deal of the day) Of course I told Dell I was p**** off but they couldnt care less! SO folks, in my opinion their prices are over inflated - let that be a lesson to all!!!

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
and you have 7 days under the distance selling rules to be able to reject your 'direct from dell' system and order on ebay :D
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

Are you sure the ones on Zavvi are brand new and not second hand or reconditioned?

  • Is the Zavvi one spec for spec the same as you purchased direct from Dell? As with all Dell stuff Inspiron R is just a name and there's variations in the spec of the model.

    1. A search for items for sale or sold recently by Zavvi brings up zero results.
    2. Without specs for the direct from dell, and without seeing the auction in question, we dont even
know if they are the same other than in generic model.
    3. Dell will be around longer than most ebay sellers.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that

Searching eBay for "Dell Inspiron r" brings back 110 results with none at £269. The nearest is Electricmania selling B+ grade for £264.99

edit... just spotted the 'deal of the day' bit.. so you mean this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270767146646

So just to confirm; you're livid because Zavvi_Outlet are doing 48% off a laptop and you think that Dell should match somebody elses discount as their standard price?

Anna I wouldn't feel too bad about it. You made your order in good faith. I'd suggest that you either resolve yourself to be happy with your new laptop and all the support Dell gives or do as other posters have said - return it and buy the cheaper one.

To start with it looks like the one on ebay is old stock, as it doesn't appear to have the i range of processors. You will always pay more for new technology.

If you want a discontinued model, then as someone else said, you can return it under DSR's (although you may have problems under the exceptions for recordable media). But personally I would stick with the i processor.

You can't complain that one outlet is doing an offer, and you missed out on it. It is up to you to do your research before you buy.

I wouldn't buy from Zavvi. As said, its old stock about the price I can buy it for and you'll get no support.

Dell is a solid company, and if you have problems with the laptop, they are likely to 1) be around and 2) actually honour their warranties, so I would go with Dell if I were you.
