Hmmm...if it's only 3 weeks, you might not get any exemption, I was told they only work on full months. It's annoying, but how much are we talking here? Between £87 and £137?
£101.54, better in my pocket than theirs really. Just need to weigh up whether the extra paperwork is worth the hassle. Currently living at my parents, so I'm not paying it elsewhere. If its a month minimum then i could stretch it another week before i move in.0 -

Well, I object to giving anything to the taxman obviously although I suppose I could be classed as 'sleeping with the enemy'...literally (I'm married to one), but it's your call. So, £101 is the difference between multiple occupancy and non? Like I said, I was told they only work on full months but you'd better check....it maybe that they wont give you any exemption for just 3 weeks, but they might for 4...you know how the government works....Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

My council worked on days - the property was empty for less than a week before I moved in, yet I got those days at a nil rate.
The form they sent me when I moved contained details of purchase date, moving in date, and moving out date of old place (as well as end of tenancy date if I recall correctly).
The way they did the calculations was a little odd but once I'd looked at the documents they sent out, it all tallied.0 -
It also depends if you are buying a property that is currently empty, they only give up to 6 months off per year unless you can prove it is uninhabitable following the 6 months and that you are able to prove that you are making it habitable i.e. it's still being rebuilt following a fire or similar0

Council tax - if you don't make your instalment payments on time you lose the right to pay by instalment and have to cough up for the whole year in one go.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0
