Ikea credit card charge

The only warning of this charge was a small sign above the till noticed after handing over the credit card.
I agree 70p is not so bad on a large spend but why pay any at all when most shops do not add this on top of your purchase?0 -
I quite agree, but as i say, i saw it as a PR exercise for IKEA. They can most certainly afford it, but choose to try and justify their so called "cheap prices" which for marketplace stuff might be true, but i don't believe big stuff is that much cheaper, by making the CC companies look bad for trying to cover their admin costs.
Bottom line is...CC companies don't deserve our sympathy, and neither do IKEA, fact is, one of them should be paying it...if they don't then we won't either....if a debit card is free, then use that, if not then cash!!Talon "Ace" Karrde

Why should I subsidise cash buyers? Paying for all the cash to be counted and bagged up and then those nice securicor men to come and collect it. Then more money for the bank to then check it again and put it through their system and in to the account of the merchant.
There is a myth that cash is cheaper than Credit Cards to process. False. Why do you think shops agreed so readily to start offering cash back? Because it gets that nasty expensive to handle and process cash out of their system.
The only winners in all of this are the banks who charge as much as they can for doing as little as they can. And effectively they are a cartel that does what it likes. The only fly in the ointment is normally the Nationwide which is still a Building Society and therefore there to serve its members. Who shouts the loudest against charging ATM and loading on foreign transactions. Not the banks that's for sure!!0 -
Why don't you get a store card (as long as you can pay the balance off each month and not incur the sill APR. You get 'free' magazine, get preview invites and money off coupons for the sales and at peak times a special queue for card holders.Smile it confuses people!0
