Ginger biscuits without ginger!?!

Oops, I decided I wanted to make ginger biscuits and went out to buy ingredients but forgot ginger and now the shops are closed.

The recipe is as follows:

butter
self raising flour
salt
caster sugar
ground ginger
bicarb of soda
golden syrup
1 egg

Will I still be able to make biscuits? Will they taste of anything?
First time I'll have made biscuits so sorry if I sound really silly.

    1. Sift the flour, salt, sugar, ginger and bicarb into a large bowl.
    2. Heat the butter and syrup together until the butter has melted.
    3. Cool the mixture slightly and add to the dry ingredients.
    4. Add the egg and mix to form a dough.
    5. Place on baking tray and flatten.
    6. Bake.

How does that sound if I change to raisins?
Thanks again for this! I really do feel useless!

have a recipe for raisin walnut cookies

    4oz marg
    4oz light soft brown sugar
    1 egg, beaten
    1 tsp vanilla essence
    1/2 level tsp bic soda
    8 oz plain flour
    4oz raisins
2oz chopped walnuts, you could add more raisins if no walnuts
    190oc

beat marg till soft and creamy, add rest to form stiff dough, divide into small pieces put on greased trays and flatten with the palm of your hand, leave some room to spread, bake 10-12 mins till pale golden brown, cool on a wire rack, makes about 36 cookies

Sounds good to me. And you aren't useless - just go read the OS disasters thread to prove it :)

Ha, well after a close call with disaster when I couldn't work out how to read my scales and thought that two whole tubs of marge was 8oz I have made biscuits and am indeed now trying not to drop crumbs into the keyboard as I eat and type!

    Thanks again.
