My first post on OS for bloody months, and that's how helpful it was.

Well done for having a go. At least you didn't actually make the biscuits without the ginger. Last week I actually made banana bread without the bananas:o It tasted like madeira cake and was really nice. I made it again this week with the bananas:T and it was lovely too. Tonight I have made fudge and it even tastes like fudge:j I am amazing myself with my achievements since finding this board:beer:100 Day Pot £13

The ginger is just the flavouring not the substance of the biscuit. use your basic recipe to experiment.
Instead of ginger try; mixed spice, cinnamon, lemon zest, orange zest, vanilla extract.
Leave out the spice and try one or more of these; coconut, chopped nuts, preserved ginger, glacé cherries, dried apricots, sunflower seeds, choc chips, raisins.
Try replacing some of the flour with cocoa for chocolate biscuits.
Have fun:)0 -
As I said - no experience whatsoever of baking before so I wasn't sure what was the best thing to do!
Am pleased with the raisin recipe though. :-0Wandered away from the MSE track for a while but am back and on a mission! Debts cleared nearly £18k. Now to start saving ...0 -
i have made ginger bread men without ginger before. i used all spice as they were still yummy. i think sometimes the best bit about cooking is trying different things and learning to adapt a recipe . it really is quite good fun.0
