iPhone 3GS - Bolt on question

Hi

I was looking at the iPhone 3GS contract at phones4u for £21.50 a month with 100mins / 500texts / 500mb bolt on.

My question is as I won't be using the internet is it possible to downgrade the bolt on to 100mb or even take it off completely? I've heard that you have to wait 3 months before you can change but can anybody shed any light.

I know I could get the £18.50 contract directly off o2 but I wouldn't then get the cash back.

Thanks

    You should be able to remove the bolt-on straight away, either via customer services or through the O2 website, you'd certainly have no trouble downgrading it to the 100mb option.
  • Hi I just got the phone. On the O2 website I am able to downgrade the data to 100mb to take the bill down to 18.50. But there is no selection to take it off completely unless I change the type of phone to either "smartphone" or "standard phone." Does anybody know what happens if I say I'm using one of these but continue to use the iphone.

    Thanks.

    Nothing will happen if you don't use data, if you use data you could potentially be charged up to £1 a day for data usage. Phone up customer services and they'll remove it for you. You might be able to remove it via the site after you downgrade it, I just checked mine and I got the following message;
    Choose the inclusive Bolt On you'd like to have:

    Remove my current Bolt On

    If you decide to remove your data allowance Bolt On we'll give you O2 Web Daily where you can use up to 100MB a day without ever being charged more than a £1.02 a day.
    I'm on an older tariff, with the newer tariffs web daily gives you 50MB a day for £1 a day.

    I take it that means it will always mean exactly £1.02/day as opposed to up to £1.02/day.....so > extra £30/month?

    If you only use a KB or two you'll be fine, but after any serious usage will result in a pretty hefty bill which is why you really need a data allowance to use a smartphone to it's full potential.
