Trespassing is not a criminal offence, but you can sue for losses, but what loss have you suffered if someone walks across your land. Considering that that "Trespassers will be prosecuted" is a popular sign to erect despite it being total twaddle they must have some effect.0

If you dont know, they have no chance....0

1st - does the land belong to the property? Check with the landlord or look at the Plan at the Land Registry
2nd - if it does belong to the property, then it's part of your rental agreement, so up to you. The LL is not responsible for what 3rd parties do
3rd - as said, trespass is not a criminal offence - but a sign might help
4th - having said that, it would only work with fairly 'innocent' people who might think "Oh! private land? I'd better keep off". Your prospective criminal 'scrap dealer' will not care two hoots for a sign. Or a fence!
5th - puttingup a fence/barrier (another option) would need the LL's permission as you'd be ltering the property

We get people driving round in large vans asking for scrap and theyve been seen nosing into the car so im a little worried as ive been told to be careful they dont help them selfs.
If your car is old and parked off the road they may have been wondering if it is scrap.0 -
You need to find out whether this land is part of your tenancy agreement. Whether the landlord also owns it is not relevant to you. If he has let it as part of your tenancy, then you have use of it, otherwise you don't have permission to park on it.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. a friend f my partner has said they actually took his disability car without permission and sold it as scrap & he had a hard job getting it back.
Call the police, this is an offence called "theft by finding".0 -
If you're in Scotland anyone coming onto your land is committing an offence under the breach of the peace laws. It's called "causing fear and alarm". You're not in Scotland are you?0
