HBS why not use terry nappies?. Even with the cost of liners and washing, you will save £500 a year. Plus terries are not impregnated with fungicides that are banned elsewhere.
As you run a small business have you looked into getting a cash and carry card for someone like Bookers or Macro or Costco ?. Should save a bit on baby milk/food.

As for washing, we abandonned washing powder in favour of the eco-balls that sell on TV shopping channels last year, and haven't looked-back. They work as well as powder but cost a damn site less.

Here's a question, does the rainwater running off your roof go to a soakaway?, if so, you can get a reduction in your water rates.

    Well done on ebay sales.

Btw, my 'motivation' came last year when the company I had worked for for a total of 20 years relocated to France and left me struggling on redundancy pay and JSA. Took a year to get back into work (temp at the mo., might turn perm in Oct.). I now realise that I can no longer justify simply buying what I want by using a c/c, then worrying about it later.

  • Hi Thank you Gothrockchic1 and patman99.

I have to admit i dont use re-usable nappys as I cant stomach the thought of washing them wrong I know! I buy morrisons value ones for £1.64 (newborn) and they are fanstastic.
The water rate arrears are on a previous property the rates in our new home town are reasonable £45 p/m but i will look into a soakaway as never heard of that before.

Time to take my business idea forward we have the website but now need to get on with marketing, I have a book from the library regarding marketing so I think the OH and I will have to have a read through tonight. We have to order leaflets then make a plan on which local areas to target first maybe offer 25% off for the first 100 customers also we need to tap into facebook marketing more and get a few friends sharing the link as we can see the visitor counter really shoot up when someone shares the site details.

We had some good news when cancelling OH's car insurance today the cancellation fee was £30 but for some unknown reason they said they will owe us £50 so in all £20 up when they do the refund.

I made some really nice pictures for our living room, the paper I liked was £20 per roll and being in rented accomodation and the room will take at least 10 rolls OH said no. So I have colour matched the paint and ripped a bit off the open wallpaper each time we go to the shop I have used some canvases and now have the paper I want up as pictures for a whole £3. I even got asked by a friend where I got them as she wouldnt mind some.

  • I have been feeling poorly the last few days I think I have an ear infection so going to go docs tomorrow when OH is home for the girls.

I dont know what I have done to the budget this month but a few days ago I worked out it would be tight but everything would be paid, I have just double checked and I dont have enough for phone/water or council tax. I think I will wait for all the d/d to go out over the next few days then work it out based on whats left!

To stop this happening again I am changing the way we bank! We have 3 accounts so account 1 will be for bills only, account 2 will be for OHs work expenses and account 3 for what ever is left over I will have to start paying water rate arrears as I get the money or it just dissapears. We have every receipt for the last 4 weeks so I am going to look at them and cut back.

  • I have just worked out £1978.80 needs to be in account 1, and £500 in account 2 (hubby gets a £500 float so we dont need to find this, just manage it!)

What ever is left will be for food. I am going to look out for plant pots etc on freecycle and start growing some veg and fruit as a lot of our budget goes on this and potatoes. I will also challenge DS to find some materials to make a planter he will love that!

  • Just back from a carboot sale only made £40 profit which will be paid off the water rate arrears.

All Diret debits have been paid :j and we have enough to pay the phone bill and water rates, and a bit of shopping. Money for council tax will be available in 5 days :D

Feeling rather happy at the mo!

  • Its been a busy week OH started his new job, and it was DS's birthday no money saved but plenty spent! its OK we have enough to cover the bills just not overpay.

I have been looking at ways to make new friends in our new town, I speak with the neighbours when I see them but I need to make some firm friends. I dont have any money to join a club or start an evening course or to take DD nursery and DS will not let me take him school lol. I was thinking of starting a craft group I have a large spare reception room which we could meet in once a week and share craft experiance etc, I dont know how this would work. Any ideas on how I could cheaply make new friends??
