Can I get a PAC code without cancelling the contract?

Is it possible to do this?
I asked Orange to issue me with a PAC code and place my current contract onto a new number but they refused. Can they do that legally?
If you mean can you use a PAC to port your number out, leaving your contract open with a different number.. no you can't do that.
If you use a PAC it'll cancel your contract0 -
Yes they can, it's not possible on the mobile number portability system that the networks use to have a line without a number. Orange are right to tell you they can't do it, if you get a pac and use it, they'll bill you for the remainder of the contract.0

Thanks for the info. I was clutching at straws a bit to be honest, I just have to get away from Orange and their pathetic excuse for customer & general service.0
