You can refuse but they still have the right to stop your benefit. AFAIK it's only Sundays you can opt out of officially. Our JCP often has Saturday morning appointments. It's nothing new and I'm not sure I would like to refuse and take it to appeal stage.

That is as maybe, if my JC agreement said that I will only consider work between certain hours, Monday to Friday, then I would not accept being dragged out of my bed on a Saturday morning, or forego my afternoon out at the local rugby club, to discuss my jobseeking activities or anything else relating to them.

There is enought apathy in this country as it is and it is for things like this that people should stand up and say No!

However if you have nothing else better to do on a Saturday, then a visit to the JC would make an entertaining day out I suppose.

As for taking it to the appeal stage, are you saying that you would be to frightened to take them on in this matter? I certainly wouldn't. I have a time when I work and a time when I spend time with my family - each is as important as the other!

You're being paid benefit for seven days a week, and you've been given adequate notice of the appointment.

If you don't attend you will have to show good cause. A JSAg which restricts your working hours to Mon-Fri may not be good cause not to attend the advisory appointment on a Saturday, especially as sufficient notice has been given, so you may well lose your benefit for one/two weeks if you fail to attend.

Just a warning - I referred people who made very similar arguments to yours to attending on days outside of their JSAg and they were sanctioned for failing to attend, and that decision was upheld through reconsideration AND appeal.
