Why don't the chat threads fit my screen?

I've probably put this question in the wrong place, wasn't sure if it should be in the techie area or here.
Since the new board format, I find that I can't see the chat pages properly...they're just slightly too wide to fit my screen & I have to keep scrolling across to read the posts, as everything seems to be going off the right-hand side of my screen. It was fine before the changes.
I'm not very technical, so is this just me & something to do with my screen settings, or is it the same for everyone?

I'm not sure Sasha but there has been others that have this problem too..................prehaps post in in the techie board and someon hopefully should know whats wrong.
I can't move your post I'm afraid or I'd pop it in Techie for you .........hope that helps0 -
Thanks Traf. Actually, I've just seen a previous post in this forum ( back a few pages) on the same thing, so apologies for repeating it...I'll go off & see if anyone solved the problem in that thread.
Ta very much!0 -
To my knowledge, apart from adjusting your own settings, the problem has not been solved and when I had a look at the new layout coming for the main pages the scrolling problem increases there. On the chat forums I have to scroll an inch but on on the new layout I have to scroll three inches
Yes I took a ruler and measured it on the screen0 -

The problem occurs because of the software code and your settings.
The forum is set up to display across the whole width of your screen. However, their is a minimum width restriction which will force those with their screen settings set to a low resolution to scroll across. On the board indexes this is caused by the main forum menu bar not been able to be reduced in size any further. In the threads it is caused by the "Quick Reply" text box being set to a specific width forcing the whole thread to be that width as well.
The only way to resolve this are to set up your monitors to a 800*600 setting or for the forum code to be adjusted.0 -
Thank you for that Isasmurf but my monitor settings are 800x600 and if I change them to 1024x768 then I can't read the posts along with everything else on the desktop because its too small
I do see what you mean though as there is a difference in how much I have to scroll when I am in a thread compared to viewing the main page.
(just for Traf, I have got my ruler out again and the scroll across has gone up to an inch and three quarters while I type this reply)

You can SET your monitor to view pages @ 1024 * 768...... You can then further tweak your settings to increase the size of items on your desktop & within applications to account for this higher resolution.0 -

Yes Tony, I know that but then I have to "tweak" my settings for every other website that I visit and I don't find increasing or decreasing the font size makes for easy reading0 -
Sorry what I meant was that depending on your operating system you can change global setting's (only once) which will effectively give you the look and feel of a low res monitor although you have increased your resolution!!
Can you press the "Print Screen" button & create a screenshot of what or how you see the forum. If you can we can then see how easily the tweaking process would be for you.0
