Tesco Receipt

firstly not exactly sure if this is a techie question lt depends on the answer so if its the wrong section feel free to move.

Long story short doing some coursework and need to anaylse a tesco recipt. The one i have has had an e-top up and so has a barcode with E-TOP UP 20 written above. The problem is i have no idea what this barcode does... and im a tesco checkout assitant :rotfl: My guess is it is a warantee that means the top-up can be refunded is for instance it is put on the wrong top-up card or if teh top-up is not sucessful it is proof of purchase. Unfortuantely im not certain of and dont want to write it in my coursework if its not true.

Wondering if anone knows for sure.

  • I could be wrong but I thought that the barcodes were on there if you didn't use a clubcard and want to go back later with your clubcard to get the points added on.

It probably has some other use but I remember reading that you could get points added if there was a barcode but if it doesn't have a barcode then the points have already been added.
  • oh no sorry should be more specific its a barcode defiantly connected to the etop up. its in its own section and everything. a clubcard was used on this occasion.

although your right if you dont use a clubcard a barcode is printed and you can get the points added on at a later date.
  • I just found this website which seems to be the company that Tesco use for their e top ups.

    http://www.epayaust.com.au/globalreach/UK.asp

At the botton there are pdf files for all of the mobile phone companies - had a quick look but they look more like toe barcodes the checkout staff scan to process the transaction. You could chcek and see if the numbers match the code on your receipt.

If not you could email them and ask them what the barcode on your receipt is for

Have you thought of asking your supervisor? Or Customer Services? Either or both should know, surely...
