Kefalonia is absolutely beautiful. Its near Zante. Its hot there and within your flying time. I haven't been to Zante but I have heard that Kefalonia is more unspoilt. I think flights are Sundays and Tuesdays. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

I will definately look more into Spain, particularly the places that some of you have suggested. And I know that I need to get passed the idea that all of Spain is Chav-ville.
Thanks again.
Never realised people have that idea of MY country!! There are definetely some areas to avoid (like Benidorm and others which have been invaded by english people, and not the nicest people..), but as we've said, it's a BIG country...
I wouldn't go on a cruise unless you have a good budget.. cheap cruises are very tacky!
With your budget you can have a very nice holiday in Spain...
Enjoy!0 -

Yes our budget is around £1200 for us both.
Although I've heard some cruises are really good, I'm not sure I could convince hubby to go on one.
Thanks again.
I don't like the idea of cruises. At least on the mainland it's easier to get away from annoying people...
Your budget of £1200 (does that include spending money?) will go a long way but I would recommend staying away from the package holiday brochures and looking at some flight + hotel combinations on sites like Expedia, Ebookers or AlphaRooms. Fly EasyJet or Jet2 from Newcastle and you should be able to get a decent 4* hotel in somewhere "non-chavy" (like Alicante) well within your budget.0 -
There are some really nice Greek islands that could accommodate you. I would suggest El Gouna in Egypt which is very quiet and lovely and you could probably get it for £600 each - the drawback is the flight which is 5 hours. Cape Verde is also very nice and unspoilt, again 5 hours, but the prices are soaring for it now. I did see a Mediterranean cruise for around £500 but that doesn't include drinks. It does France, Italy, Majorca, Corsica etc. Try looking at Teletext Holidays or Google "cheap all inclusive holidays". There are some real bargains to be had out there. Good luck!0

Also have a look at Andalucia whilst you are looking at Spain. Lots of Chav-less places there. I am not a Chav and live in Andalucia.0

i'm definately not a chav and have had two very enjoyable holidays in salou.. we dont do 'brit' style pubs and bingo.. nor clubbing so dont have a problem.. lovely beaches and its a great base for visiting cambrils, tarragona and barcelona.. not suggesting you go there of course but am sure there a miles nicer places in spain you might have discounted for being 'chavvy'0

Thanks again to all of you who have taken the time to respond. And apologies Alisha2008 I'm sure your country is lovely.
I'm still not sold on the idea of a cruise, not sure that its something we would enjoy.
But much to my surprise, having looked at a few of the places that have been suggested, Spain is definately an idea.
getmore4less, that's a very good suggestion, however, it's my work committments that are causing the issue, not his.£400+ in my £2 coin tablet fund0 -
:TJust wanted to thank all those who posted suggestions for me. We have decided on Fuerteventura and will hopefully get it booked tomorrow, after I've phoned the cattery and booked our 2 cats in for their holiday.£400+ in my £2 coin tablet fund0
