Unfortunately due to work committments we can no longer have the 2 weeks off in July that we had originally planned, so I'm looking for some suggestions for places where we can go.
We are limited now to the 18th - 22nd July, but we can fly from the Friday 15th if it was a late flight.
Basically, much to my hubbys annoyance, I am very fussy, and can't bear places such as Costa Del Chav and the likes, so have ruled out Spain & the surrounds.
I had looked at Bulgaria (Sunny Beach area), but someone said it was like a sunny Blackpool! Has anyone been?
We don't want to go to Portugal, we have been there 3 times already, the last time being about 10 years ago.
We went to Zante, 8 years ago, quite enjoyed it, but don't think the flight times are great from Newcastle, I think they are mid-week (yes we need to fly from here).
I'd very much appreciate suggestions for somewhere nice, hot, reasonably close (within say 3 hours) and chav-less, that would be suitable for a couple with no kids in their late 30s. Our budget would be £1200 for All Inclusive.:A

Is that £600 each
What about a cruise, might get one for around that but would need drinks money on top.0 -
Thomson go to Mallorca at 18.55 on Friday 15th July from NCL, you could go to the chav free bit of the island.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

There are plenty of places in Spain and its islands that aren't "chavy" at all. You just need to go where the Brits don't. Take Alicante as an example, all of the package tourists get off on the airport and pile onto coaches to Benidorm bypassing the city itself. However, it's a lovely place and still has a very Spanish feel, especially at night. There are also some very quiet costal towns nearby.
There may not be many package holidays to Alicante itself but it is easily done as a DIY trip by booking flights and hotels separately.0 -
Turkey? Not within your flight times but well worth the extra hourtravelover0

I suggest you research Spain a bit more.. there are plenty of places which are not "chav land" AT ALL. Alicante is a good example (except Benidorm of course).
Canarias also has lovely beaches and many islands to choose from, you can fly with Ryanair and accomodation is cheap.
If you want something with a more english-weather, the north of Spain is lovely, with great beaches too (a bit too cold for me though).0 -

Good idea - you could spend a whole 2 weeks exploring northern Spain - San Sebastian, Bilbao, Santander and right along to Santiago de Compostela and you would be unlikely to see a single sunburnt lager drinking chav, a stag/hen party or restaurant serving egg and chips. It's also cheaper than most other areas of Spain.
Spain is a big place and it's easy to get away from the hellish package tour resorts. Even places like Mallorca (without the "j") and Ibiza have some quieter areas.0 -
What about South West Spain?
Jerez/Cadiz way or even Seville?
It isn't chavvy at all - we went to Chiclana de la Frontera for our honeymoon (rented a place from a guy at work) and it was lovely, ok we had a car so were able to go to other places like Gibralter!
Lovely beaches/restaurants etc around there and it was described to us as the place that the Spaniards go for their holidays!0 -
Thank you thank you thank you. Your suggestions are very mush appreciated.
I will definately look more into Spain, particularly the places that some of you have suggested. And I know that I need to get passed the idea that all of Spain is Chav-ville.
Yes our budget is around £1200 for us both.
Although I've heard some cruises are really good, I'm not sure I could convince hubby to go on one.
Thanks again.£400+ in my £2 coin tablet fund0 -

Thanks again.
Most people get hooked once they take the leap so do some research.
even if this time is not right look for other trips
I did find a fly cruise package that nearly* fits the £600 budget and dates.

Or
what about some city culture and a P&O trip leaving Southampton to the baltics
or
a nile cruise(hot) with some real interesting thigs to do.
or
Since it is OH dates that are the problem there are a few decent solo rate on some good cruise lines, leave him at home with £200 and spend £1k on yourself.
*there are extra costs and drinks.0
