Got a verbal redundancy notice this morning, letter to follow.
I was very upset,
for about 15 seconds. :rotfl:
Im 61, been with the company 25 years, the only thing I will miss are the friends Ive made who I will still keep in touch with.
No more bloody accounts, no more driving in the snow and ice in winter.
retirement here I come:j

Sometimes redundancy can be a great thing , best of luck!0 -
Congratulations to you
I''ve been made redundant and am now into my last month with my employer and have been struggling to stay motivated thinking of all the things I will miss.
Your post has started me thinking of all the things I won't miss, young people hanging around outside where I work - although I work in an information centre for young people which is based in a young peoples' HMO. The foul language, the young people sitting on the grassed area across the road in the warm weather, getting pi**ed then demanding to use our toilets, I won't miss the abusive language when there is something we can't help them with...
I could go on but I'm sure you get my drift!!
I'm too young for retirement but have decided that I will finish up my job next month, have my much looked forward to holiday and come back refreshed and motivated to find a new job in a different environment.
Thanks & congrats again :beer:0 -
Hey, lady1964, youre welcome, things have been a real hassle this last few months, cash flow problems, trying to parry creditors on the phone, trying to keep accounts up to date with lots of hassle, rectifying other peoples errors and making mistakes myself because of this.
The company is not in financial trouble, purely cash flow problems at the moment but i just hate lying to people who i have built up
a relationship over 25 years.
Hope you have a lovely holiday, I think thats what My OH and I will do first.
Hope you find a lovely satisfying job when you get back.

Sorry to hear your redundant, its a kick in the teeth especially when you've not been there before. I wasnt quite sure how i should feel when i was made redundant, i felt elated on 1 hand but on the other i needed to find a job.0

Its been on the cards for months really but I have had time to adjust, Im quite happy about it really, I was 60 eighteen months ago and cut my hours to 3 days, then 2, so its been done slowly.
Moneywise, we will manage, some pensions so wont go short, nice redundancy cheque although i will be working up to 12 weeks notice.
To be honest, having been dangling on an uncertain thread for months its a relief to have a definitive line drawn.
The best thing is that I have worked my very very last winter.

Thanks Annie, your wishes are very welcome.
When my parents retired, although not because of redundancy, I was worried that they'd miss their jobs etc but they absolutely love being retired. They are quite active, enjoy lots of coaching holidays as well as overseas holidays and really enjoy their lives together.
As for me, I was terribly upset when I got my redundancy confirmed but all of us where I work are going so at least we're all in the same boat and can have a good moan and know that everyone else feels the same way. We've planned a 'big fat redundancy bash' with dinner, dancing and a tribute act, 40 of us going, with ex colleagues joining us, going to be a great night and a celebration of all we achieved and a toast to friends
I will enjoy my holiday, I'm not going to worry about not having a job to come back to.
You too have a relaxing holiday when you finally walk out of your employer's door.
Thanks again x0 -
