Contact one of the car delivery services like http://www.gonomad.com/transports/0012/javins_driveaway.html
Where you get a car and a tank of fuel ! for free for delivering the car.
Unless you want to enjoy a holiday going where you want to go, when you want to go there and taking your own sweet time about it

now you've really got me confused.
From a 14 day holiday,
you're going to spend 11 days travelling 2500 miles in a car
Hi Murphy - we are going for just over 3 weeks actually, not just the two.
so we have plenty of time to make the trip and spend a few days here and there.0 -

p..s have you CONFIRMED the one way hire charge ?
Hey Murphy,
yeah we have confirmed the cost. My friend works for Trailfinder and they have helped with everything which has been fantastic.
I was a bit surprised to see the cost everyone else has experienced here, so $500 sounds pretty good now!0 -

that extra week makes all of the difference, I hope that y7ou ahve a great holiday.Hey Murphy,

I think that the problem with the one way hire chrages is that they are usually described as 'guide figure' or 'applied locally' which makes it very openended. If you have a confirmed figure of $500, then you know exactly where you are :beer:0 -
Well its been a while but I thought I would post you all an update on the trip.
it was absolutely fantastic and I would highly recommend it to anyone considering it. We drove just under 4,000 miles in the two weeks we were on the road and visited loads of great cities.
We would get up early in the morning, knock out 4 or 5 hours of driving a day and get to the place we wanted to be for an early lunch. Spend the day sightseeing or shopping, hit the town in the evening and then back to the various hotels for some kip.
The standard of hotels varied, some were excellent and some were pretty crappy - but its the old adage, you get what you pay for and we didn't mind any of the places we stayed.
as for the car, we did have to pay just $500 for a one way drop off, but to compensate they gave us a free upgrade to a far higher spec car (we went from small SUV to Luxury SUV - two steps) which was very kind of them.
other highlights - Pontiac, weird little town with a war museum that you just stumble into from the route 66 museum, Gracelands - which was no where near as big as you would have thought! my house is about the same size and finally Vegas.....it really is a scene of debauchery, but our hotel was outstanding (stay at the Wynn people) and we had a laugh
thanks for all the help and advice
