hong kong expat buying uk property

Hi, does anyone have any info regarding tax implications in buying a UK property as a base for my wife and children given that I live (rent) and work in Hong Kong... the UK property would not be rented out and will be occupied for periods by my wife and kids for the best part and also myself for a time period not more than a couple of months a year.

thanks for any info

(ive been living in hong kong for 6 mths and own no other property or have other assets)

So this property would be owned by you (jointly with your wife?) and not rented out, but you and your family would live there for periods of time, but your main family home would continue to be in Hong Kong?

I don't think this is really a question for the house buying board - have you tried the cutting tax board? You need to read the rules on domicile/residence to see how they affect your tax status.

    OP,

Check out form HMRC 6 form.

Bottom line is if you have a permanent job in HK and spend less than 90 days per year in the UK you are fine.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:
