I had a similar phone call about 20 times over a two week period. I'd recently contacted Microsoft about something to do with my computer and at first I thought it was about that but then I realised that I wouldn't have put my home phone number down and would have given my mobile number.

I've had two slightly different takes on the Microsoft calls - one telling me that my pc has a virus (yeah, right) and the one I had yesterday from a company called PC Support. I normally end up laughing uncontrollably at them, and then point out to them that I work in 3rd line support for a global IT company! They never want to keep on entertaining me after that;)
Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

if you think about it , if microsoft phoned everybody who had a problem with their pc then they would need a call centre with millions of people working in it

    Yes it's a scam.
They pick you at random and have no idea what computer you have.
When they called me once, I asked them which computer of mine it was that was calling them, and they just looped back to the start of the spiel.
    They are not Microsoft.
They are scum, and you can either try and string them along if you fancy a laugh, or just tell them to **** off. Alternatively, if you tell them you use Linux they'll hang up.

I had international call this evening clainng to be from Windows and wanting to talk to me about my windows computer. Knew it was probably scam asked where got my details and what computer he was talking about. Was getting nowhere fast and got fed up of them told him to get lost and to **** off then hung up. He had the cheek to phone straight back looking for an apology for me swearing. Told him I can say what I want in my own house and hung up again. He then phoned several times over about five minutes told him to stop phoning my number and kept hanging up on him. Cheeky beggar to expect an apology from me - he never apologised for wasting my time with unsolicited phonecalls.
I wonder if they will try phoning tomorrow at same time.

I had one of these calls last week, there's a funny side to this.

Caller: "You know when sometimes your computer just runs slow?"

Me: "No, mine doesn't do that"

Caller: "Well that's junk in your Internet Explorer folder"

Me: "I don't use Internet Explorer"

Caller: "You need to clean out your Internet Explorer. Let me take you through it. Open Internet Explorer"

Me: "I don't use Internet Explorer"

Caller: "Oh, open your Google Web Browser"

    Me: "You mean Chrome?"

    Caller: "No, Google Web Browser"

Me: "Do you mean Firefox, Konquerer, Opera, Safari? Which one do you want me to open?"

    Caller: "Google Web Browser"

Me: "You know what? You're full of s*** and I'm stringing you along. Not only that but do you even have a clue where you got this number? Let me tell you, it's my business number, from my business website, my IT Services and Solutions business. That's right, I do this for a living now **** off and don't you dare ever call back"

I was eating lunch otherwise I probably would have guided them into a sandboxed virtual machine and a little play. Oh well, maybe next time.
