Well if you own your own business, are VAT registered, you could of course buy your nice shiny 4X4 4 door hard cab and use it as your personal vehicle, whilst also claiming to use it for shifting that rubble too, maybe.;)

But that is not a personal option (Like I said in the post personal VAT), the idea of starting a company to avoid VAT is a bit extreme for most.

Credit rating agencies opinions on our country, is quite important!

But I agree with you, and whoever else, to make life easier :)

Doing the right thing for the people of this country is more IMO.

Thanks for agreeing with me the RSI is playing up;)

Don't disagree but there many other allowable expenses for tax just for being self employed too, forget the VAT (which is a pain anyway for small stuff).

    It doesn't take much effort.

As you quite rightly said us poor sods in the middle are the easy targets.

pay your tradesman cash, buy your CD's etc from the internet, buy you fags & ale from white van man etc, etc.

The consumer pays the VAT, the seller collects it for HMRC.

I guess those avoidance measures are unlikely to be the preserve of the rich though, the comment was in response to this.
The worst is VAT, only the poor pay it.

Well I think it is fairly plain I know how VAT is collected.

I like the VAT avoidance Ideas though, but that is not VAT avoiding loopholes is it?

The only legal bit is non Vat registered trademen and importing Cd's from Jersey (providing under £15) the rest is a bit fanciful.

You could add Steal food and fuel to it? But again they are no loopholes.

In reality there is prety much no Legal loopholes to avoid VAT for personal consumers, thus the rich still pay it and can't avoid it.
The only real way is through fiddling company/ trader accounts. Not an option for most in decent jobs.

Not being difficult - I follow both points but don't they contradict each other?

Isn't the latter consumer doesn't pay the VAT?

Surely the seller has to keep a careful balance to ensure taht they do not become a net recipient and alert the rozzers.

Then you may be, not as well off as you think, if you were you would already be aware of VAT avoidance loopholes.

Nope, I've double checked and I can confirm I definitely know how well off I am.

So, still ok on that front but thanks for asking.

Why steal food when there is no VAT on it anyway (uncooked that is)?

    If you want a loophole then consider this;

you don't have to be VAT registered if your turnover is less than £60k (ish). Hence when you have your central heating replaced (say 4k including boiler), you may find your plumber wants you to pay direct for the boiler, radiators, copper pipe etc (which you have to pay VAT on) and pay him for the labour etc (you won't pay VAT on as his turnover is consequently less)
