Perhaps the title brought you to this thread because you are nosey.

Hopefully you came to this thread because of the misuse of the word 'of'.

I can accespt bad grammar on threads, perhaps some posters are old and not privileged to an education available to people today. But, this annoyance is associated, mostly, with younger people. Are they too lazy to write ‘have’? Fine, then perhaps in some cases you can use ‘should’ve’ to shorten your sentences.
I actually think people are just dumb, as I get this in formal emails to me all the time.

Here is an example (not quoted names to save embarrassment!)

he was right to complain he should not of had to come back .The compo was nice but should never of need to be paid as they should of sorted it

Look at that! Two times in two sentences!

Spelling mistakes? Fine, it can happen.
Grammar not correct? I sometimes get this wrong (feel free to spot mine in this).

Using a totally incorrect word? Not on!

Twice. Incorrect grammar can be irritating; thankfully, not life threatening (unless it goes beyond irritating).

'Young people' ? I was at secondary school in the mid 80s and it was in common use then, sadly. So those people are knocking on towards 40 now, and I suspect a lot of them still do it. Bad grammar isn't restricted to the young.

Ive no problem with spelling either, but this isnt a spelling mistake, it's a completely wrong word. Actually, I think it is closer to text speak than anything else.

Quite right! Bad spelling means you pay more attention to it, to try and understand what is being written, but....

I take exception to the remark about education today being better than it used to be.
When I was at school, I didn't know anyone who couldn't read, write, or do simple maths. These days it seems to be so common it makes one cringe. Even the BBC are at it.
I don't think things are helped with the U.S.A's version of English spellings either, and that is far more prevalent than it used to be.

It appears to me, that earlier education was far more thorough in the basics than it is these days, but then we didn't have to cope with lots of pupils with English as a second language, or learn Urdu, or about Islam etc, to ensure we didn't have racist attitudes through ignorance.

The three R's are basic, you can then learn all the rest by reading.

And the inability to read a book! If people read more, correct use of language should come naturally.
