Hi all, as i say im a 22yr old male with a 2.0 celica GT ... and oh it gets better - i have 0 no claims too!!
Ive tried a few companies and most wont give me a quote under 4 figures... elephant have been the best so far with £744 fully comp (£1k excess mind, still a damn good quote tho!)... tesco was about £850 and direct line about £880... Does anyone know any insurers that are cheap for young male drivers with performance cars?
Ive been driving on a motortrade policy for 4 years - hence no NCB. Ive had no claims in the last 3 years and no convictions in 5 so its not alll bad...
thanks in advance

Well your a 22 year old with good taste!
Obviously if my advice doesn't work, you will need a new car!
Adrian Flux might be a good one to try, check confused.com and stuff like that, find the cheapest price then get a quote through that companies website
Put a women on the insurance policy, putting my partner on as a named driver reduced my quote from £1150 to £969
Reduce your declared mileage, maybe only use the car for SDP
Back to the named driver thing, how about if you were the named driver and a womens the main driver, then take out a Direct Line policy, you will build up your NCB
Oh and just noticed, your cheapest quote was £744, last year I paid £1744 for a 17 year old on a 1.5 Toyota Paseo (baby celica) so count yourself lucky its so cheap even with no NCB!0 -
Thanks for the response - Bear in mind that the elephant insurance is on a 10 month bonus accelerator - ie - its only for 10 months not 12! Indeed it does seem a good price - although im still searching for any thing lower (although i doubt ill find anything!)
Ive tried adrien flux and im waiting for them to get back to me, however im not holding my breath because they wanted just over £2k for me on a slightly modified rover 216 a few months ago!!
Not too sure about the Direct line idea, sounds a bit dodgy to me... plus i live alone with me girlfriend and shes only got a provisional (hehe i wont be able to teach her how to drive now!)0 -
Stick her on the insurance, it will still bring the price down! Make sure if you do, you put her as a "Partner/Spouse" as if you put her as "Other" relation, it will increase the insurance price
And from what I found with Norwich Union, the price for 10 months was the same per month, as 12 months so I would get both quotes, and divide them by 10 and then 12 respectivly, see if you would be saving much0 -

If the Elephant policy is for 10 months, aren't the other two actually cheaper per month?
Sorry can't help any more - the broker I used when I was your age doesn't seem to still be in business..0 -
The direct line idea is only a good one whilst you stay with them, as I believe no other co will recognise the NCB built up by a named driver in this way.
Best advice I can give is to get yourself a yellow pages and call as many co's as your patience allows. I do this every year for a bike and 2 cars (one of them a high performance) and we never pay more one year than we did the last. This year I made a claim on the performance car and we expected the renewal to go sky high. It went up a little bit but I shopped around and got it cheaper through a different co. We rarely stay with the same co 2 years running. Both cars are cheaper this year than last year even with the claim.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Hi - try https://www.ecarinsurance.co.uk who should give a competitive price.
Also worth trying A Plan performance car division on 01635 874646 (UK / European models ) or 0845 0711234 for Japanese market models ie grey imports0 -
Also try sticking your parents on the insurance - particularly your Mum.
My insurance on a modified Vauxhall VX220 went from 892 quid with Admiral for just me driving, to 697 quid after adding my Mum as a named driver to the policy. Elephant are owned by the same people as Admiral so the same might apply.
I didn't get any significant discount with other companies for adding my Mum though, so your mileage may vary.
Also worth trying Greenlight Insurance - they're a broker, and until this year they were by far the cheapest for me, and also excellent to deal with.0 -
what do you expect, you have a performance car and you pay the extra as its a performance carNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

Both of these things invalidate your insurance, and are classed as insurance fraud.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

think yourself lucky!
I had a Celica GT at 22 with 0 NCD and the best quote i could get was around the £1700 mark, my Dad went through his broker and managed to get it insured as him with a 4years NCD bonus (his insurance is in his company name). When i came to insure it myself i was getting around the same prices as you at 25.
Some places, like Quinn Direct, will let you use named driver discounts as long as you can prove it but your price isn't too bad for your age and the car.
After the 10 months you'll get your 30% discount so it's probably worth going for but like others have said, put your mum on the policy to bring it down a bit.0
