Cheap car hire in Ontario, Canada?

We need to hire a car for two weeks from 18th October 2011 to 1st November 2011 and wondered if anyone had any good information on how to get the best deal. We are flying in and out of toronto and will be driving to Southern Ontario and then just local visits and back again to fly out.
Any help much appreciated - not even sure where to start!

I used to rent a bit when I lived "up the 401" in Montreal.
Like here, airport rental rates cost more than downtown or neighbourhood branches, so if you're spending time in Toronto itself when you arrive, consider using the city's excellent buses, trams and subways and then arrange a rental from an off-airport location. Although this was six years ago, I regularly found Enterprise the most convenient, because they also offered a free pick-up and drop-off at the start and end of your rental.
Otherwise, start hunting around with the usual suspects mentioned here: CarHire3000, Holiday Autos, Expedia, Ebookers, Opodo, Kayak, Skyscanner. Consider also a quick Google search for Car Hire Excess Insurance, which will insure you in the event of a ding that consumes your excess. Usually cheaper than paying at the counter to zero the excess. I use Daily Excess, although others are available.
If you're at all unsure about whether you're in need of a car, don't forget Ontario has an excellent train network: Go Transit do all the radial commuter routes out of Toronto; VIA Rail is the national rail network with dozens of trains throughout Ontario.0 -
This may sound like an easy cop out of an answer but I genuinely have always found Carhire 3000 to be the easiest and cheapest option both for the States and for Canada. Hired a car from Tornonto Airport via Carhire 3000 two years ago no problems getting it or leaving it back.0
