I'm sure that Sony would charge an extortionate amount of money to repair it. Can you claim on your contents insurance?

it may be under warrenty depending on how long ago you go it
but you cracking the screen wouldnt be covered by the manufacturers warrenty simply because it was you who did something its not a manufacturing fault
they may repair it but they'll charge you for it!

Why should they do it for nothing? You said that you broke it.

    no harm in trying!
    say it just broke!!!
  • Imagine the scenario if you will....

'Hello, Sony repairs department, how can I help?'
'Hi, my screen is cracked and I want it fixed under the warranty..'
'I'm sorry sir but accidental damage isn't covered by the manufacturer's warranty. We can have it repaired for you but there will be a charge.'
'But the screen cracked on it's own, I didn't touch it.'
'You're screen cracked all by itself...'
'Yes that's right I was nowhere near it when it cracked.'

    *click* dead tone..........

sorry but no company who cares about their profits are going to fix a crack in a screen because 'it cracked all by itself'.

Yes - I do agree. the problem with LCD screen is the glass is thin, unlike the very thick glass of a CRT (normal) tubed screen and repair isn't really an option - the LCD screen is the whole telly.
