For Second Hand Car Warranty
Help - 18 month old Ford Mondeo Titanium (09) developed noise in the engine - car now in Ford dealership garage who are disputing the warranty as they require a VAT invoice (not stipulated in warranty policy)for the 25k mile service being carried out at non ford garage - service was carried out by family member who work for a Company that Ford are very familiar with and all genuine ford parts used which we can evidence by receipts - Ford still say that warranty is now invalid as they required a VAT Invoice.
We have challenged Ford to prove that non ford parts were used during last service - they won't take up the challenge
Finally got them to diagnose problem - they are accusing us of running the car with no oil in engine - anyone familiar with this type of car will know that it has a sophisticated computer which would flash a warning light if this was the case and also prevent the car from being driven - when asked to prove this Ford have retracted and said that engine damage is due to wear and tear - what on a 18month old car - surely this type of car is expected to run longer than 18 months Coincidentally they have two other Mondeos in their garage with the same issue.
Have written to Chairman of Ford UK - no response - car was purchased on Frod Credit who are now acting as mediators - and have been in touch with Watchdog (no response yet)
Anyone had his experience with Ford or a Mondeo and can advise on next course of action as we really can't afford the £5k they are quoting to replace the engine

Did you have to post this on multiple threads? A 09 car is more than 18 months old."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Not sure about a VAT invoice but it normally states must be serviced at a VAT registered garage.
Problem with newer cars people assume they are ultra reliable and never need the oil checking or topping up unless a big red warning light tells them to.
Oil should still be checked weekly.
Have they said what the actual fault is? Which engine?
How long have you owned the car?
Having it on finance may help as they are partly liable.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
The fact the car was serviced by a private individual may be important here."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

A warranty is in addition to your statutory rights.
As such, the warranty can have whatever conditions attached to it the issuer likes.
In this case it appears that a condition of the Ford warranty is that it is seviced by a vat registered garage.
Maybe that's an unfair term, I don't know.
But it seems that you have no proof that any service was carried out at all.
Ok, a family member can write out an invoice but...
Maybe you could go down the Sale of Goods Act route, but I don't think your chances are good, I'm afraid.0 -
Proof - log book stamped and receipts available - reason for no VAT invoice is that we paid for the parts but not the labour
Oil - car only driven short distances at weekends hence checking oil weekly seems like overkill - We have a second car a Ford KA and only check the oil randomly at 3 momth intervals and have never had to top it up in 6 years - again only does short journies -
I dont think I implied that we wait for warning lights to flash up before taking actions - my point was that we have been ACCUSED of driving without oil but as we check it regularly (in comparison to the miles we do in a week) this is so much a lie by FORD
We have only had the car 15 months and I certainly expect something I paid £17k for to last a lot longer
Re multiple posts - apologies buyt computer kep crashing so wasnt aware that post had been uploaded - first time doing this sort of thing so apologies0 -
I have receipts for new brake discs and pads for my old car, The parts are still in the shed though. I never got around to fitting them.
Some new cars can use a bit of oil then settle down and may never need topping up again, But then again some are just prone to using it forever. If within manufacturers limits then not much you can do except keep checking it.
Not sure why they state a VAT registered garage?
You have had the car 15 months so i think it will be down to you to prove the car was not fit for the purpose.

Not sure why they state a VAT registered garage?
Maybe it's so that they know the garage in question has a reasonable turnover (over about £68K per year) and isn't just a tiny "fly by night" operation run in a back garden.
I know that having a turnover of this figure wouldn't guarantee that the work was carried out to a good standard, but maybe Ford think that it could help.Proof - log book stamped and receipts available
It would be extremely easy to get a stamp made up for just this purpose. (I'm in no way implying that this is the case here,) simply that for all Ford know, this may have happened.0 -
They know the company as the company look service all the london police cars!!!0
