    Will Do...Many Thanks
  • Had my car delivered back from UK assistance...
They have done a very good job with the repair and colour match but a dent had appeared in a different door.
Rang them up and there was no argument, they sent dent master round the next day and it was sorted.
Obviously the dent shouldn't have happened but they were very quick to rectify the problem and with no hassle... Very refreshing!
  • As for your claim I do not have any experience of this but wish you well with your claim.
  • Help Needed . What can I do with an under quote form replacing a fire damaged kitchen ??
  • Same problem. Did you get a result?

A friend is just experiencing problems with UK Assistance/PIA Support re a household claim he has made.

Without giving too much details, he provided 2 estimates both around the £10k mark and, eventually, DL said that the claim had been passed to this subsidiary to progress.

Well, the current state is that this subsidiary has sent my friend a scope of works, detailing the all the works to be done and pricing the whole job at less than £3k !!!

If my friend does not accept this and proceed using UK Assistance, then all he will receive from DL is the less than £3k amount .. meaning that he would have to find the best part of £7k to get the work done by a supplier of his choice.

The quote/valuation of the total works is obviously not a commercial price and is intended to force claimants to use DL's subsidiary.

The question is though .. is this legal ?

I've shown the estimates to a quantity surveyor who agrees with my view that the valuation by UK Assistance is not commercially viable.

Having had no experience of UK Assistance/PIA Support, are they a bunch of cowboys or is the valuation of the repairs sharp practice/scam to force claimants to use DLs subsidiaries ?

And, any views as to how to proceed ? Obviously, if others have had experience (good or otherwise) of this subsidiary then comments will be welcome.

I just wonder if the ombudsman has made previous rulings on this type of practice, bearing in mind it makes it impossible for the claimant to use their own supplier.

    Thanks.

    Dave.

Really not impressed. My car was taken into this garage due to an accident caused by someone else.UK Assist is the garage used by my insurer, Tesco. They came and collected it on friday 27th May and didn't even look at the damage until the 2nd of June - I know it was a bank hol, but was even told by the driver that someone would call me Monday or Tuesday - I assumed that it would be looked at on the saturday. If I'd known it would take them that long to even assess the damage, there is no way I would've let them take it that soon. It was still driveable and road-worthy. No replacement car available to me according to the garage, so I'm relying on busses and friends to get to work! I've now been quoted and told it will be ready by the 16th June! Over three weeks!! Unacceptable. They don't call when they say they will. When I complained to Tesco they spoke to the site manager who then reluctantly called me. He was "offish" and talked to me like I was an idiot.

Would not recommend them - not that I had a choice in the first place.

Just to redress the balance of previous posts, I need to say that I have just received my car back from the Rutherglen UK Repair Assist Centre following an entanglement with a wall and a gatepost and they have done an outstanding job on my car. I am well satisfied - particularily as I was somewhat nervous having read the posts on this forum!

I have also been involved in an accident, and when Direct Line said UK Assistance would collect my car I decided to check them out first. Glad I did. Owning a Renault I contacted the Renault Accident Support Line (RASL) for advice. They are handling my entire claim (against the other driver) and repair at a Renault dealer garage. This makes me happy as I know the parts used will be genuine - I have used the same garage several times before and have always been satisfied.

Anyway, the publicity I picked up whilst in the garage states

"Know your rights: You have the right to choose HOW and WHERE your Renault is repaired".

So I googled the subject and discovered indeed - you do not HAVE to go with the repairer selected by your insurer. The first 20 results on Google were garages all offering this service. Of course they will advertise this service but if it means your car goes somewhere you are more comfortable with then that can only be a good thing. Chances are your insurer will also try and deny this in favour of their low cost in house repairer. Renault also, seemingly correctly, point out that genuine Renault parts may not be used, and you may not be told this. Could apply equally to any car manufacturer. Whats more it probably ensures my warranty remains valid!

So, go with the cheap insurer, but know your rights when it comes to accident repair!
