Grey area about whether you can always deduct your purchase, especially with reimbursement only food jobs, as it can be argued that the food was not purchased wholly and exclusively for the purposes of the job.
Has been discussed heaps of times, have a search and you will find some interesting and helpful discussion on it
Thank you for your help0 -
I am still plodding along with my first tax return and have been looking on the first page for help.
I am currently working out my profit and loss. Am I right with a couple of things: My income is the amount paid from the company you worked for (fee and the reimb). For expenses, anything I had to pay out i.e my purchase for the particular product? Also, I have completed a restaurant visit and this was a reimbursement to a max of £XX only job, so effectively when I minus off mileage it will be a loss? Is this the right way to record it or not? Any help would be grately appreciated, many thanks
yes, record it that way. You are doing these jobs to build up experience and a rep with the company. I also make sure i deduct the full amount i had to spend (say the burger company where the min cost is 20p MORE than the reimburesement) but obv not when i have chosen to spend more.
If you record it any other way, you would basically be taxed on the full value of every pizza! and have to ague "well yes, the pizza i enjoyed so is taxable but the burger job i didn't really eat, more sampled so don't tax that as a benefit"
I make a loss on quite a few jobs when i do my tax return. Don't forget to take off printing costs (i deduct £5 a year for the cost of printing - ie a ream of paper).0 -

Hi everyone
I submitted a test visit to Edig about 2 weeks ago but still haven't heard anything back. How long does it normally take for them to check it and activate your account.0 -

I can not remember exactly how long they took with me but I know it was a couple of weeks at least before I heard back.0 -
So... visited a DIY store today for a non MS purpose and was approached immediately, helped to find the product, given specific advice on what tools I needed etc, etc.
Obviously being in the game I took note of his name and thought I recognised him so checked him to my records when I got home. Now, I've visited that store 5 times in the past 6 months for 2 different companies and been served by the same guy who, after the first visit where I put in a bad report, has always approached me within minutes of me entering the store and been very helpful, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. My cynical side says I might have been spotted, should I do anything?0 -
I wouldn't do anything. Just don't accept that store for ages to give them a chance to forget you. Here I go again on my own....0

Snap!! I get stalked round my local diy by an assistant who I think has sussed me from previous visits and who is very helpful every time I go. But unless they say something, it's only my assumption, so I still do the visits.
It's speaking to the same assistant in the kitchen/bathroom area every time that I hate. After 3 or 4 visits I'm sure they must realise what's going on. Was relieved when the last visit had a scenario in a different section.0 -
Some of the smaller ones that I do only have one guy who knows about anything, they are hard work.
I did a laminate one a little while back and they virtually cordoned off the aisle to give me a live demo of how to put it together.
There were 3 of them doing it and I am standing there with cold sweat forming on my back and thinking "ive got to ask about a lawn mower next".
