For those ladies with SPD, do you take medication/painkillers to help? I'm wondering if I ought to go and see my GP and see if she can prescribe me something. Physio is a waste of time.

Nope, mine is just above mild anyway, but was told that even if very severe I wouldn't be given anything other than paracetamol!

My GP laughed at me when I asked for painkillers....

The consultant I saw yesterday said the only thing that would be likely to help is something ibruprofen based which we're not allowed to take because we're pregnant! He was an absolute gem, most helpful man I've ever met.

Where's that rolling eye smiley when you need it...

Ughhhh. Not that I particularly want to have painkillers but I thought if I had them, it would be another argument for early delivery lol! It's just so painful isn't it Winnie? I am in agony by the time I've walked to school and back and it's only 10 mins each way.
Thank you to everyone for sharing competitions!
  • I'm still at home, merrily labouring away. I seem to have half hourly or hourly bursts of contractions coming every 4 mins, then half an hour or so of nothing. Every so often a strong contraction catches me off guard, but apart from that it's been an easy enough day.
I've to return to hospital at 9pm tonight if not before. Guess they will give me drugs to speed things up then. Grrrr.
Dont have mobile Internet so I might be quiet for a day or so.
Hope things are happening for Hayley, Twinkle, Missey and Pigpen.

I'd definitely add severe pain from SPD to your list. If they're thinking about inducing me at 39 weeks because of SPD then it must be a valid reason not to delay things!

I couldn't walk to school if my life depended on it but even driving that half mile leaves me in agony! I think the only time I've felt pain on a similar level was when someone clouted me with a hockey stick and broke my jaw!!

I was given mid strength co-codamol for back and hip pain was a bit wary of taking them as doc said they can make baby sleepy :( he said taking them in the short term would be fine though, I took one of them with one paracetamol he recommended doing it this way as not as strong, made me really constipated though :(

  • Good luck Alison!

I was given co-codamol in hospital but I prefer the pain over the side effects! It didn't touch the hip pain in the slightest anyway :(

I am almost, almost 30 weeks pregnant. With a back that's been sore since 5 weeks, constant headaches, and the ability to swoon well, anywhere, thanks to BP. I have SPD that's just enough to make walking painful later on in the day, and I'm sick of nosebleeds (a bit of a moodkiller). I also need to pee, seemingly every five seconds, and I'm contemplating a labour with no real pain relief.

And I'm still in a better mood than the guys in work. Something is up- and it's not pregnancy paranoia- and since I asked this morning if the company are prepared to actually talk to me over SMP etc, I've been getting the official, formal dry emails- all the little joking bits and friendliness is absent today. I don't know if it's related to me asking if they actually plan on paying me, but the atmosphere in here is so cold all day you couldn't cut it with a knife- the blade would shatter.

How come I'm in a better mood, when they're all not pregnant? I'm fine, just sick of keeping out of whatever is the problem!

Thankfully it's hometime soon, and I will hotfoot out of here......

Vent over, sorry, it isn't like me.
