I would aim for a cancellation, besides IF you had listed with the postage option it may well of sold for more in the first place, so if you are going to now send by courier, relist it with this option.

I've done it. I sold a table and chairs collection only and the winning bidder was in Glasgow. She sent me down some money for packing and organised her own courier. Sometimes you have to trust folk. We are mostly honest.

Really? The 'excellent advice' you mentioned seemed to me to be more than a little patronising, so it got the response that, in my opinion, it deserved.

The poster seems to assume that the level of 'risk' that is acceptable to him should be the maximum level of risk that all should accept, which is, of course, complete nonsense.

The suggestion that the account may have been hacked is, considering how many transactions a day ebay has compared to how many are through hacked accounts in the UK, is such an infinitesimal risk as to be not worth considering. Especially taking into account the type of item I was selling etc etc

But hey, each to their own. I have no wish to force my opinion about acceptable risks onto the poster, I would hope that, despite appearances, he feels the same.

My first comment in response to the OP still stands, I helped my buyer out and there were no problems

Except for the small fact you'd have tracking info even if they booked it because it would be on the label you printed to attach to the parcel or on the collection receipt the driver gave you....

If you've never used a proper courier and just used RM/Parcelforce, I suggest you keep your thoughts to yourself.

By doing a cancellation however you'll only get the FVF back if the buyer agrees to the cancellation.

Not a good idea at all.
A lot of third party booked couriers don't give receipts unless you make them, or until you actually refuse to part with the parcel, and if it goes missing the contract will still be with the buyer, not you.

It might only happen a small number of times, but is it so wrong to advise any potential seller of the problems that may, and sometimes do occur?
After all, isn't that the exact purpose of this board?
You don't have to do much looking on the ebay boards to find many instance of this.

So when we have had thread where people have asked about couriers that take the labels with them, the seller would be able to ask for that tracking and also be able to claim against the insurance using just that tracking number if item is damaged en route?
