Sold item collection only- buyer asking about courier

Hi I sold a tent on ebay, said collection only as its big and very heavy. Buyer realised they live a million miles away and are asking if a courier could be arranged. I have never done this before, what would I have to do?

say no, refund the money, ask for a mutual cancellation and re list it.

You would have to pack it safely and securely and then get a fairly accurate weight and also measure the dimensions to get a quote.

Once you agree a price with the courier and have booked it you will probably have to wait in all day until it is collected

I had a similar thing, I told the buyer that I was happy for him to pay by paypal and then arrange his own courier to collect the item. I was happy to wrap it for him (I taped it into a bin bag) and there was someone at home during the day.

It's never a good idea to do this unless the buyer is willing to pay by cheque, Postal order or bank transfer.
If the item was lost or damaged on its way to the buyer, all they would have to do is to open a paypal claim and it's almost guaranteed that they would receive a full refund.
The same would happen if they received the item in perfect condition but still decided to claim non delivery.

Ouch, that is about the worst thing you can do.

If buyer had claimed either INR or there was a fraudulent use of card claim you could not defend it at all. Even apart from that if item was damaged you would have no idea how much it was insured for so buyer would get a full refund and you would somehow have to negotiate for compensation with a courier that has nothing to do with you and with whom you have no contract.

Yes I could have been caught out but I weighed up the odds and decided to do it.

That's fine providing that the ebay and paypal account haven't been hacked.
If they had, the 200 +ve feedback wouldn't have meant anything.

Once the buyer agrees to cancel, you will get your final value fees back (ebay fees not paypal). If they dont respond, you can get them on the 8th day yourself.

Any listing fees, if paid, are not refunded (thats ebays very own scam).
