I brought a new laptop in February HP DV6 3182EA from Currys for £649.99, but have only just got it out of the box a week also ago to set up. All I have put on it is the printer, mcafee and some photos, not a huge amount although the laptop of this spec should take it anyway, but it's so slow and unresponsive its driving me potty - the worst laptop i have ever owned. What should I do next and what are my rights???

If anyone could help i'd be most grateful.

Thanks in advance. :)

Forgot to say I have googled the laptop this evening for reviews, and there was nothing.

How the hell can you buy a laptop in february but not open the box till june, Why buy it then if your not going to use for months.

Have you tried windows updates, uninstalling the junk thats normaly installed on a laptop.

    I would install xp :D

As Pcombo stated, the first thing to do is to uninstall some of the preloaded junk that will be on there. (make sure that you either have an installation disk or a partitioned HDD with this on so you can restore the laptop back to factory setup if needed).

You may well find that there is a trial or full version of Norton antivirus, and this will also clog up the machine a fair bit.
If this is on there I would get rid of it and install Avast (which can be downloaded free of charge).

Well if its so slow try a system restore first (Turn it on and press F11 to enter the HP Recovery partition. Then choose the HP Destructive Recovery (Or return to factory settings) and then once the restore is done see if its better. Make sure not to install anything, if its still acting up it might be a hardware fault, if its working fine go about reinstalling software (making sure to only have one internet Security on it) and see if it still works ok.

    Hi all, :)

I think this one might be best in the techy forum for the moment. If the problem can't be solved then the thread can be moved back here later.
