Hi, I'm hoping for a bit of advice please. I'm about to leave Sky home phone and broadband which is £22.50 currently (£23.50 from next month). However i'm not sure where to go. I would like unlimited broadband if possible.
I was leaning towards Orange or O2 but I haven't heard good things about Orange so I'm not sure where to go now.
Any recommendations or advice please.
I've been on samknows and it says LLU operator presence What is this?
AOL: Enabled
O2 / Be:Enabled
C&W / Bulldog:Not available
Edge Telecom:Not available
Entanet: Not available
Lumison: Not available
NewNet:Not available
Node4:Not available
Orange:Enabled as of 07/09/2007
Pipex:Not available
Sky / Easynet: Enabled as of 04/03/2007
Smallworld: Not available
TalkTalk (CPW):Enabled
Tiscali Enabled as of 17/02/2008
Tiscali TV: Enabled as of 17/02/2008
WB Internet:Not available
Zen Internet: Not available
I presume the names with enabled are the ones I can get in my area??
Also can any one tell me how to check my internet speed???
thank you all

From that list i would recommend Be*
It's the only one apart from Sky which is truly unlimited. What was wrong with your Sky connection?
Try https://www.speedtest.net for a guide to your speed.
Alternatively using the Sky router, open web page, type 192.168.0.1 then go to "Show Statistics and it gives you actual Sync speed,Attn (guide to line length/quality) SNR amount of spare noise available0 -
LLU stands for local loop unbundling - which is basically how many suppliers have ther kit at your local exchange.
It does not mean that you are limited to providers who have the kit as some other suppliers utilise kit provided by others. However, what it does mean is that some suppliers (such as plusnet) offer a better price where there is more competition.
See - http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/products/low_cost_areas.shtml
Suggest you try a price comparison site first.0 -
Thank you SteveE2 I tried the sky speed test but it requires login
I tried the speedtest.net thank you. My ping (?) is 90ms, my upload is .31Mbps and upload is .34Mbps. I think that's slow, it feels slow.
I shall look at some price comparison now.I have dyslexia, so get used to my spelling and grammarMortgage pay off date 11/2028. Target 12/2020 :rotfl:

Does having broadband wireless slow it down???? I've just change the filter thingy as I've read on here that it can make a difference to speed but it has stayed the sameI have dyslexia, so get used to my spelling and grammarMortgage pay off date 11/2028. Target 12/2020 :rotfl:

Wireless can be much slower and those speeds look dire to be honest.
Speed is best tested with an ethernet cable and using the test socket behind the lower half of the main faceplate,It's only 2 screws to remove no wiring to touch so is perfectly safe to do.
Can you try this
http://192.168.0.1/
Default sky login- username= admin, password= sky
> Router Status
> "Show Statistics" Button
Copy/paste the reults like so
Connection Speed 18014 kbps 902 kbps Line Attenuation 21.5 db 9.6 db Noise Margin 7.1 db 8.5 db0 -
Managed to do that woohoo!!!
Connection Speed 378 kbps 413 kbps
Line Attenuation 60 db 41 db
Noise Margin 14 db 16 db
I don't think they are very good. I shall route around in my drawer full of wire to see if I can find an ethernet cable.I have dyslexia, so get used to my spelling and grammarMortgage pay off date 11/2028. Target 12/2020 :rotfl:
