Best providers of overseas withdrawals?

Am going to Italy for a wedding in aug, will of course take cash with me but in case I get caught out what would you recommend in the way of bank cards, pre pay cards, travellers cheques etc and where best to obtain them? Also if travellers cheques are unused can they be "refunded" in any way and if so what is best way
