Whilst you are correct about BE and long lines (though it's more like 4-4.5km than 3km), I refer the honourable gentleman to my previous response. ;)

The stats indicate there is an error. His line should be giving way better than 2.5meg. :)

well, i sorted a new filter, and it would appear vodafone have been doing some playing as well.

ADSL Link Downstream 7072 kbps Upstream Connection Speed 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 46 db 12.5 db
Noise Margin 9 db 25 db
I checked my distance from the exchange, and im 2.31km as the crow flies.

Things are looking better. once again, many thanks to the input from all, much appreciated.

That's still a massive differential. The typical ratio of down to up attenuation is 1.5-2, meaning 12.5dB up should equate to 18.7-25dB down attenuation. This suggests there is still a fault somewhere. Have you tried connecting to the TEST socket? (The one behind the master socket faceplate).

The original figures I posted are straight from the master socket. According to vodaphone, bt wiill be working on the exchange until the 20th, so maybe things will improve over the next few days.

Master, or master TEST? (Subtle but significant difference. Master TEST socket removes any internal wiring from the equation - or should do anyway).
