Help! My kitchen sink is blocked and I need to clear it quickly. I don't have a plunger. Any advice on what I can do.

    Thanks in anticipation

You can try putting some water in the sink then putting the heel of your hand over the plug hole and kind of.... plunging your hand up and down. (does that make sense?)

The idea is that you push water down the plug hole like a plunger.
Just run, run and keep on running!

That's how we always do it - heel of the hand, quite vigourously.

How about some washing soda and some very hot water to dislodge any debris? Or a mixture of salt/bicarbonate of soda and vinegar?

If the "hand plunging" doesn't work: messy.......but: put on rubber gloves, put a bowl under the syphon and unscrew the whole lot so you can clear it out. Chances are that the blockage is in the syphon. When cleaned out, make sure you tighten things again without any leakage (but don't overtighten).
  • You can also try poking the ubiquitous wire coathanger down the plughole. That might work.

try some cheap coca cola.......... or anything fizzy,

point bottle downwards over the plug hole. then squeeze the bottle, the coca cola should go down the pipe and the gas should help clear

Last night my kitchen sink wasn't draining, after trying a kettle of boiling water I had the inpiration to try soda crystals and vinegar.

I am pleased to report it worked a treat. :j

Turned out my DH had put some cooking fat from frying eggs down without some hot water to keep it liquid.

Well done! It's good to know that 'old' methods work well even though you can buy a million and one 'super magic wonder sink unblockers'!! The OS way is a lot cheaper too!

Do you think this would work on a shower drain. Ours is running slowly and sometimes backs up, doesnt smell very nice either. I know the problem is hair and soap gunge yuck.

If this doesnt work has anyone got any ideas.
