it isn't a question of greed, its a question of ones requirements. I personally have 3 cans a day typically, 2 at work and one at home (maybe a less during weekends). If I had it all myself this will last maybe 5 months. given that its unlikely to be this cheap in the next 5 months, it is a sound purchase (the only time it has been cheaper in the last 18 months was in November Tesco had 3 for 1 at £2.85).
However, I don't just purchase for myself, I buy refreshments for the volunteers of a charity event I run.
But back to a point I made previously, if the offer had been intended to run, only if people purchased small amounts, sainsbury's should have limited the number available, as they normally do.0 -
Yes, it's not greed that drives people to buy at that price, but like Shadow Jam said, it's requirements. Buying in a few months worth of stock on items that are on special offer, and have long use by dates does make a sound purchase.
It was only recently that Sainsbury's sent me some £12 off a £60 shop vouchers. I'm a single person living by myself, but they're trying to encourage me to spend more than I usually do, so if I was going in to buy about £30 worth of Pepsi to last a few months (at the old price) then stock up on a few other bits and bobs, I'd be spending just over £40, so I'd need something to bring me up to £60, so why not more of what was on special offer. I didn't get a chance to get to Sainsbury's whilst the offer was on, but will hopefully try again at Tesco tomorrow.0 -

Was there ever a response from Sainsburys about why they pulled the £1 offer so quickly?0

It was a pricing error, should have been £2 not £1.0

I'm half inclined to believe that. On one hand an error that big slipping through the net? One of the MSE staff contacting them should have set off alarm bells.
However, the fact there was no push on the offer in store, and they were trying to sell the fridge packs instead, means this maybe is the case.
Oh well. I guess we will learn for future, to get in sharpish.0
