Desktop icons not working- cant log in??

Try to install Imgburn and let me know if you are able to run it:
http://www.imgburn.com/

You should be able to run any program from the task manager (when you do CTRL SHIFT ESC) if you then click on File > New task (Run), then browse to whatever file/program you want to run. Everything should be somewhere in Program files

I have loaded that program and it works.

I found chrome via the task manager but it did not do anything.

Paste the following in Notepad and save it as RefreshIcons.bat

taskkill /F /IM explorer.exe
cd /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local
attrib –h IconCache.db
del IconCache.db
start explorer

Save the file someone easily accessable

To access it go to the task manager, then go file and run task. Browse to the file and choose it.

Long shot, but see if http://www.tangosoft.co.uk/re-enable v2.html helps at all.

You should see for yourself if its all shortcuts, or just some.

Just how far back did you restore to?
