500mb data - enough?

Hi I have just subscribed to a 'good deal' sim only with tesco mobile - £10 per month for 500 mins 5000 texts and 500mb data. For £12.50 I can get 1GB. I do not download tonnes and as a mature user tend only to browse and e-mail. Is the 500 enough?

For regular standard browsing 500mb is loads I never go anywhere near that but if you were to start streaming Iplayer tv shows then you would easily go past it.


If you are gonna download something big then wait until your phone is connected to wifi and then it wont be included in the 500mb allowance.


You can download a small app (free) called 3G Watchdog that will keep a tally of all you download and it works very well.

With just light browsing and internet I use 1 to 5Mb a day.

(I then moved onto streaming music and have used 600+ in the last two weeks but that's another story!).

I use my phone as and when I want while out and since 19/3 I've sent 172mb and recieved 255mb. So in almost three months I've not used 500mb. As I said, I use my phone for email, browsing etc whenever I want to whilst out.

I use less that 100 Mb per month as I use wi-fi a lot. I do use mine as a Sat Nav, though, and 500Mb is more than enough, but I don't stream video if not on wi-fi.

Do get a data checker. I use datacounter (free)
