I tried system restore when the antivirus thing came on but it didn't do it, haven't tried it recently.

Computer is fujitsu Siemens not sure where I would find model details?

Oh...it's a PC with inbuilt Wireless LAN.

Have you tried System Restore again?

Just done restore and seems ok. I've been wary of doing one with the trouble I had starting the computer(it only ever goes on standby now) but although it did take ages to reboot it did it eventually.
It always came on and straight to desktop by itself but now it stops on black screen and I have to arrow down to XP home and click on that then it comes on.

Did you do a System Restore or a Factory Restore?

System restore. Its been like this since the antivirus sales scam thing was on it. Went through allsorts to get rid, removed some stuff on hijack this and when it restarted it did it and has done ever since, thats why I no longer switch off or restart.

It sounds as if you have run combofix at some time. Does it sit on the black screen with two options - Recovery Console and XP Home ?

Yes I have done combifix in the past but not recently I don't think, I would have to check my other posts. You describe the screen exactly.
