Joannas Mum, so sorry to hear your news, I miscarried the week before Christmas 21 years ago, it's a horrible time to lose a baby. However, DS was born 18 months later and I wouldn't have him if I'd had the other baby so I can't regret it now.
Happy birthday Nelski and Anniversary the Trus.
Have made a batch of Nigella's Frangipani mince pies - DH loves almond. I hope they come out alright because the quantities seemed a bit skew. She said to put 2 large eggs in the pastry but i only put one in and it was still a bit too much like a batter, I had to add more flour.I also put more groud almonds in the frangiapani topping.
Am also making a batch of her peanut butter cups for DS, just waiting for DH to get home with the cases for them. He brought the wrapping paper home last night and has gone to change it today - I told him I wasn't having sludge green, orange and yellow unde my tree (silver and gold). Oh dear I feel an Anthea moment coming on!:o
Got the result of the second assignment on my course, another 65%. DD says I am still a swot:D0 -
oh
Joannasmum that's really bad news. I hope you are feeling ok in yourself, make sure you get plenty of rest.
Not doing much today, i've been feeling poo all week but my sore throat/cough has turned into a full blown cold. I can barely breath without it hurting.
Just found out that my OH's friends have split up. He is really upset, it's been bad news all week really on top of his mums cancer. They have been together for 9 years and have a daughter. They were actually due to emigrate to Oz next month!. I think this is why it has all come to a head now. Very sad.
Because of everything that has happened this week, all of our xmas and new year plans have gone to pot. I was really looking forward to it as well.
Oh well. I'm sure it will all work out for the best. Just watching the news I realise it could be a lot worse.
Have a good weekend everyone and if you have to brave the shops, good luck to you :rotfl:We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
morning folks!
:grouphug: to joannasmum.. i'm very sorry to hear about your miscarriage. :grouphug:
happy birthday to Nelski and congrats to mr and mrs tru!
never did get round to cooking the xmas pud so that's on the list of to-do's today. Also cleaning the fridge - it needs doing, badly, and cleaning the side of the cooker - possibly inside the oven too. And the bathroom. I might do some mince pies later, if i feel up to it. Coughing and sniffing a lot today, with the cold, i'm not as miserable with it as i was [when i just wanted to curl up on the sofa and dieeeeeeeee (!)] but its still hanging around far longer than i want it too.
just had breakfast - bacon and egg butties for OH, toast with marmalade for me. not in a bacon mood. pizza for dinner. tonight is the usual US viewing: NCIS/CSI/L&O all followed by Dracula which is a movie i love. so i shall be doing very little after 7.30pm!
i guess i best get on with it.. that fridge ain't gonna clean itself... and i'd rather do it now than in a week when i'm rushing around frantically trying to stuff the turkey in there..

penny-pincher - glad your DD enjoyed her trip ! I thought she would.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY NELSKI!!
Happy Anniversary Mr And Mrs TRU!
Not going to try doing a long post, as the pc keeps losing the connection when I try to send posts and pms so I hope a short one will go all right.
We haven't got our Christmas tree up yet - our DGS (13yo) was very disappointed (especially as we usually have some choccy decorations! ) and I was very embarrassed to have to tell him we couldn't remember where we put it after last Christmas! Will have to send DS into the loft to look for it later, a bit like an oversized chimney sweep's boy:D

PenPen - the frangipan mince pies recipe is in her How to be a Domestic Goddess book.
Haven't done much today apart from wrapping Christmas pressies and washing up (why oh why does it never end). I'm just about to stick some pizza dough on in the BM for tea tonight, washed down with bottle of wine whilst watching X Factor final
Tomorrow, DD and I will be making mince pies (about 3 dozen!!) and some of those peanut butter sweets Nigella did on her programme this week
Having a big roast beef dinner tomorrow (I've never been able to cook beef without it going tough as old boots - but with all the tips and hints I've picked up from here - I've high hopes)
Better dash - have a great SaturdaySquares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)0 -

Hi
Just wanted to wish everyone all the best for Xmas & hope you all have a wonderful time. :xmastree:
I'm sorry if this gets a bit disjointed but am having a prob a the mo as I have no short term memory  . The neurologist is not being at all helpful but another consultant who I saw on Thursday thinks that i have been having lots of mini strokes that have caused some damage. This time last year I had an MRI that showed 2 white spots on the brain & 6months later another showed these had increased to 5. Hopefully this weekend won't turn out so expensive as last , the TV exploded so had to buy a new one (took ages to set up because of where it is) then my special kettle gave up the ghost (extra expense just at the time oy year that we could do without.) Also we are in the process of selling Mom's house to pay for her Care Home fees, so poor OH is not only working full time, looking after me ( I forget to eat & drink without prompting) he is having to clear her house on his own as well (my mobility is also absolutely rubbish). Have just completed DLA forms in the hope of getting an increase, as I only get low rate care athe mo, with the help of Welfare Rights & a social worker ( he has been brilliant in sorting things for me that I didn't know about - been buying inco pads for 12 months!!) This is all taken from my diary that I need to keep so I know whats happening so once again I apolgise for the rambling.
Any way enough of my troubles
:grouphug: to everyone who needs them (sorry can't remember names) and wishing everyone a peaceful & happy Xmas & new year
Love Sue :rudolf:Love to save & love a bargain0 -
Hi everyone,
I haven't been posting much this week because it's been swinging between absolute chaos and very boring here so I haven't had much to report. I am way behind with Christmas and beginning to panic, but like everyone else I expect I'll get there in the end. I really could do without working next weekend. I keep repeating my mantra...It's only two days. It's only two days...
Joannasmum, I don't know what to say...sending you hugs. I hope you are feeling as ok as you can be.
Taplady, more hugs for you...I hope you manage to get through the weekend.
Scruffy, I hope you feel a bit better soon.
Tru, Happy Anniversary!
Nelski, Happy Birthday! I hope you've had a lovely day. :bdaycake:
Take care everyone.
