1p charges being made to asda mobile?

My husband has just realised if has no calling credit on his pay as you go Nokia Mobile Smart Phone. He only topped up a number of days ago and now has no credit.

He phoned asda mobile to be told from 3 May - 31 May there has been 240 charges of 1p to the account all its states is asda mobile??? nothing else. It was only internet enabled on 24 May 2011. Would this be anything to do with it also at this time we signed up for Nokia & Nielsen 360 monitor all free infact I get paid for it. I have phoned them they are saying that it isn't them espcially due to the fact of the amount of times in May (240) They only update ever few days. Anyone any ideas of what this is for??

Also the phone has kept beeping not sure if this has anything to do with it???

If he only topped up at few days ago, it can't be anything to do with any charges in May.

What phone is it? How long ago did he top-up and how much?

When the phone beeps does anything show on-screen? If he holds down the home key, what programs are running?

It could be one of your apps updating each time you use the phone.
i had this trouble, it was my weather app updating.it was defaulted to update every four or five hours.
it now only updates when i use wi fi

do you have any internet bundle? the nielsen project(im a member too) uses gprs data to upload usage data once every 24hrs. If you dont have a net bundle, then you will get charged data use.

so, when you install you have 2 outgoing sms's only, then data usage ongoing every 24hrs or so. I have have had about £50 so far from the scheme, and i also have just sent back my nokia e6 as well that i have been trialing for them :-).

£5 top has just been made in June

no internet bungle just on pay as you with asda. I only recently joined the scheme. It turns out that asda mobile themselves have been charging the 1p total being £6.55 which they have refunded. But I have also had to cancel all the internet off the phone seeing that they are charging me!!! Doesn't state anything on their website about these charges so there could be hundreds if not more getting charged and not knowing about it ..scary.

Might even get onto watchdog about it. The phone Nokia 5230 is set so that it didn't do automatic updates but asda were quick enough to pay up when they were accused of fraud/stealing my money.

Any ideas of a good pay as you go to get the so I can get the nelsen thing back onto the phone asap.

It would be great to trial a phone for them.

NOKIA 5230 £5 Top up was tuesday night between then and yesterday evening he had used 81p in charges granted 1 text rest was these 1p charges. nothing showing on screen, no programs running.

He has now taken it off the internet totally because of this.

As has been previously posted - the Nielsen application sends data in small bursts - which is part of your commitment to them, and in return you get awarded points etc. Stopping all internet services will terminate you from this programme. They'll soon realise when they're not receiving any data.
The 5230 also has integrated social networking (Facebook etc..) are you sure that this isn't set up - and set to check for updates every so often.

Essentially - this is pretty much an internet based phone, which if you don't have an internet bundle/add-on, is going to end up costing you (as you have discovered)
Asda will absolutely be able to identify what the charges are - ie data/messaging/calls etc. If it's data - then their is a phone 'app' is absolutely 'calling out' for an update.
